I have owned a Maxi Lopper for over 13 years. Owning these Loppers and living in Miami Florida has made life with Hurricanes so much easier. Maxi Lopper racheting profile makes cutting 2" branches easy for a small woman. There are never enough people to get debris cleared from your yard and owning the Maxi Lopper is by far the best tool to have.

I agree with reviewer Debbie... this tool makes even heavy pruning manageable for almost anyone. My husband likes the regular kind, the ones that need a gorilla to close them through a branch, but I'll take these, thank you. They're not inexpensive, because they are incredibly well made. Get someone to buy them for you as a gift if you can. Once you cut a couple of wayward saplings out of your lilacs, or clean up some heavy brush, you may well find that you just can't stop looking for more opportunities to use this thing!

More specifically, it is a large tool with ash handles and a metal business end (blade is Teflon coated carbon steel - can be hand sharpened). It weighs 3.5 pounds -- not light, but not impossibly heavy either. The hooked beak of the business end helps hold your target branch as you cut it, even if it takes several pumps of the ratchet arm to do so. The brightly colored handles make the lopper easy to find in a crowded shed or outside in your work area. I've been wiping mine down with WD40 I think, a couple of times a season, especially if they get wet. Between the price and the functionality, I don't want anything to happen to my maxi lopper! If you have heavy pruning, get one, you won't be sorry. You can buy them direct from Floriantools(dot)com if amazon still doesn't have them in stock, and your local places happen not to carry them.

This is so sad, but my Maxi Loppers don't ratchet any more. It took a lot of poking and prodding, but I finally figured out that a hook on the end of a spring broke. I might be able to pull it out and bend a new hook. Given the new price (available at www.floriantools.com), it's worth a try.

Let's see, Dad bought these before I got married. Maybe they're 30 years old. The blade is a little tired, so if you expect to pass your tools on to you grandchildren, you might want to pass on these. :-) Of course, there's nothing better, so perhaps you should settle for the best.

Best garden tool I ever bought. For years, I am using it, all my neighbors have borrowed it - and it still works!
