Updated review: I wrote my initial review immediately upon receipt. I should have waited until I did some reading in the Bible. Though it is still the best print layout for a thin NASB, the pages don't lay flat at the center. They are crinkled, wavy, or buckled at the binding. You have to pull it open further to read the text in the middle because of the buckling - and it makes crackling noise when you do it. My smythe sewn Nelson Open Bible from the 80's doesn't do this, nor does my smythe sewn 2007 Thompson Chain. If you search for "china wavy" on the Bible Design Blog, you will see that this is common with text blocks made in China - but you can also see that some China publishers have fixed the problem. Lockman needs to get this fixed so it opens and lays "flat." This problem is not the leather binding (I did not notice any of the leather binding problems earlier customers had) - but the text block assembly - before it ever gets to the leather binding stage. I did send it back to Lockman, and they have been very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, they compared my bible to others and they say that they are all like this. My ORIGINAL comments, still true: The full NASB references and footnotes in the center column, a paragraph-style format for smooth reading, a compact and thin size, and yet the 9 point type is quite readable. Not to mention the smythe sewn binding to last decades. Yes, it is made in China, but I didn't see the leather or inner liner problems that some earlier reviewers found. I purchased the burgundy "Genuine Leather" - not as soft or as expensive as calfskin of course, but standard fare, though with matte finish rather than a glossy look. Just Compare it to a similar Bible from Cambridge or Allan - they go for $120 to $200 - but the type face is too small in those editions. What a deal for a great Bible.
