Ditto to the first review. As the first reviewer pointed out, the pages of this bible are sewn. A minor rant on physical quality: A few weeks ago I started looking for a replacement for a worn out 25 year old bible (also NASB). Just about every hardcover bible I looked at, all versions, at Borders had pages glued to the spine, not sewn. This is _not_ _acceptable_ in a hardbound book that I'm going to be paying [$$] and up (sometimes way up) for and using continually. Even some of the leatherbound bibles were like this. Only Oxford and Cambridge seemed to be doing it the right way. I wouldn't call this type "large print". The maps could be nicer (in black and white, not color). The cover boards are covered with some kind of plastic (I'd rather they were cloth). At [$the price] this is a bargain.

This review is from: New American Standard Bible (NASB) Update Side-Column Reference; Blue (Hardcover)
For those readers who do not have knowlege of either Hebrew or Greek, this is generally considered the most accurate of translations available. But be prepared for uncommon style. The NASB is more readable than the KJV, but similar to the NKJV, although it draws on more eclectic manuscript evidence. The Lockman Foundation is the proprietor of this translation and has retained the faithfulness of the 1977 version, while updating the archaic remnants of the NAS (1901). The Smyth-sewn binding is a rare commodity in bookbinding these days, providing a long-lasting, quality book. Black letter version is increasingly harder to find, and this is a plus as well.

I am very pleased with this Bible. (I have the blue hardcover editon.) Having the references in the side column is a wonderful idea! It makes reading a pleasure. Add to that the single column format, and we definitely have a winner! My only regret is that I didn't save up for the leather bound editon. :) BTW, the NASB is an incredible translation. If you're accustomed to the NIV, give it a try. You won't be sorry. J. Swartz
