Goodbye Mirror Balls...,

Great little effect! I've always hated setting up a mirror balls and disliked their fragility. I can't tell you how many I've dropped over the last 10 years....no more. The Starball gives off very crisp beams and has a much nicer look. It's pretty sturdy and light enough to mount on an extension arm. It's the perfect, modern, mirror ball replacement. No duty cycles and since its LED it hardly pulls any power. It doesn't heat up like the old pin-spots and is incredibly simple. My only advice, if you are going to a large venue/dance-hall, get two.

Got this to replace a mirror ball system, was excited about the less power usage of LED and not having seperate spots. Not even close to a mirror ball effect, just several beams of white light coming out and rotating, no sparkles and only as many beams as lenses you see. I had given the product the benefit of doubt when looking at the photo thinking it would be more spectacular in real life...wrong that's about it. If you need some more white beams of light moving around your room this will work for you but for me I've returned it and ordered a new mirrored ball.

For a modern lighting effect, this is a great product to replace a mirror ball. Actually, nothing can beat a mirror ball effect...but this comes really close. Fairly light-weight, pretty durable build, low power draw and yet bright enough for just about any event. I also like that it comes with a bracket so you can use a single o-clamp for this on your trussing. The only drawback is the power cord. Why American DJ gave it a wall-wart plug is beyond me. Perhaps they were using inventory that was already available and interchangeable with their other products or maybe they just want to keep leeching the customer for money. First off, wall-warts take up space on a power strip or power pack. They're also bulky and heavy. Secondly, the wiring near the wall-wart is just way too flimsy, especially for something that is directed at a mobile-dj market. After a few months of use on the road, the wires started to be exposed. The thicker portion near the wart designed for stress was fine, but right after that ends is where the problem begins. The plastic after that is too flimsy and easily broken, exposing the bare wires beneath. The wires are also very VERY thin and once that plastic shielding is compromised, the plug is pretty much history. They should've designed it with a D-plug instead of something with such a thin shielding and wire. Why bother purchasing a replacement adapter when a few months later the same thing will happen again? I've seen other dj's complain about this on forums as well and I should have paid attention a bit more. I don't plan on purchasing this or a replacement adapter if I have to.
