This review is from: American Style (Hardcover)
American Style has no continuity where actual word of text is concerned and photographically is just as dire. Yet there is slight redemption in the imagery of this book as thrown together as they may be the images are great, but I just wish the author stayed on topic of an actual timeline in the positioning of the images page to page, from past to present, and put more research in the book, for example there is a close tight shot of a World War II image revealing less of the military style that is referred to in the text while primarily showing the gas mask the model is wearing on one page, followed up with a page with a Raquel Welch photo, it made no sense. This book is less of a history lesson on fashion as I thought it would be, but more of a messy picture book of name-dropped has-been celebrities, referenced pop culture and fashion brands.
