one of the nice things about having kids is taking them to the movies. and these two films, an american tail and feivel goes west were definite favorites. we had these two movies on vhs and wore them out. my kids are all teenagers now and probably not as interested in watching these kinds of films as they once were, but i really liked these two films a lot so i kind of bought them for myself! if you have seen them then you know how good they are. if not and you are searching for something good for your kids to watch, then i highly recommend. the story is about the experince of the immagrant coming to america, family and friendship, and the determination to persevere. the story and animation is top notch, on par with disney. many of the characters are voiced by popular actors, john cleese and dom deluise to name a few. this dvd contains both movies on one disc and even though it would have been nice to see them get the royal treatment that disney lavishes on their films, im still glad to have them. these are five star animated classics that your children will love and if youre a big kid then you'll love them too!

Every now and then, a classic character is born. Enter Fivel. In Russia, Fivel's family is threatened by cats, so they go on a boat that's bound for America--where there are no cats. The truth is that America has as many cats as Russia did. Fivel gets seperated from his family, who believe that he died. Fivel spends the rest of the movie making new friends in America (including a cat). The first time I saw this movie, I fell in love with it. This is a truly family classic.


Fivel Goes West is one of those rare sequels that's just as good as the first movie--if not better. Fivel and his family head west for a simpler life. But there are cats in the west too.

American Tale is a classic. My kids were not born when it first came out. I have always heard the song "Somewhere Out There." but not seen the movie until now. It is heart-warming and at the same time educational, showing the immigrant experience, with opportunities to explain how people came to America to seek new lives, and how they can collectively stand up to oppressors.

My kids enjoyed it thoroughly as well as the sequel "Fievel Goes West", which parallels the American experience of moving westward. Yes, there are cats (problems) out there too.

This movie is excellent for children under 4 years old. Years ago we purchased this for our now 22 year old. The story never gets old and the mouse fievel is so cute and loveable that children are captivated by his adventures. Great for any collector. Timeless story .

It is so great to have both of these movies on one disc - Fievel goes West and the original American tail.

Everyone should know all about this movie, and how truly touching some moments in it can be. It's definitely a "repeat" movie...meaning you'll want to watch it over and over again. 'Tiger' is side splitting in the comedy timing, his delivery in speech (voiced perfectly by Dom)and is just too adorable to not be real.

An American Tail, and An American Tail: Fivel Goes West were my two favorite animated movies of all time. Even more than the Disney classics. I watched these over and over, and although I am now 16, I am highly considering buying this "double feature" to bring back those memories, and to enjoy a classic animated FEEL GOOD movie.

Very good. Highly entertaining and has a good theme to it. The kids will love the adorable Fivel. The cats are entertaining too.

This product came in prompt time despite the fact that I only requested regular mail. Although I have not seen this vid yet, it came intact & undamaged. This was a gift for my partner so I will not be able to review the movie itself as I do not like animation but she loves it. But as for Amazom their service is first rate. The only con is that Amazon does not use PayPal, which is my preferred method payment. I love Amazon

Man this brings me back to when I was a kid! Good films, which subtly promote cultural awareness. Fievel Goes West is more focused on action than the first, so it's pretty engrossing.
