Here we have a non-Disney movie that ranks right up there with some of the really great animated flicks. Jimmy Stewart and Dom DeLuise are no longer with us, unfortunately. Their characters are great. Linda Ronstadt's singing is superb. You do not watch this movie for the plot. Just enjoy the super characters with wonderful voiceovers.
I never saw the first or the third installment of the Fievel series, and I'm sure they are great too. I had this on video tape and have been waiting for DVD for years. My daughter loved it, but she didn't KNOW the characters like I did. If I remember correctly, Spielberg was involved in this film, which makes perfect sense why it was done so well. It is not a Pixar magic cartoon, but it is just as enjoyable as any Pixar movie ever made, and I have all of those too. If you aren't a happy person, don't watch it, because you won't get the point of it. Try it, you might just really like it.

The lasting impression of An American Tail 2.,
By Brandon Bernos (Ponchatoula, Louisiana) - See all my reviews
This review is from: American Tail: Fievel Goes West [VHS] (VHS Tape)
The first time I watched An American Tail II I was 7 years old and still to this day when I watch or even remember ATII I feel like a child again. That's what I call an impression! As you see the innocent little Feivel you just can't help but feel like he is you. I would very strongly recommend this truly great movie to any child (or parent!). I have never been a fan of westerns, but this movie absolutly blew the lid off classic western movies! I would like to commend Steven Spielberg in his conception of the greatest sequel of all times. I have never myself found sequels to be better than there origial. But ATII is really is better than the first. Well I don`t know. I was not even born when the first American Tail was released. But I have herd it was drepressing, and very disturbing for young children. Children movies should be happy and fun! Not sad and depressing like the original American Tail. So I write to you this review after someone (a 5 year old)has recently refeshed my memory of the movie. It hurts me that this movie is nearly forgotten! I can`t find it in my movie case. So I went and tried to by it! I went to Blockbuster, Wal-Mart, On-Cue, ect., ect. I could not find it anywhere. Wal-Mart said that it was discontinued. And everywhere else said they just didn`t carry it. I hope Amazon takes check because my parents are too paranoid to put their credit-card numbers on the internet. Well I am now going to call to you in-short my recollection of Feivel Goes West strait from my memory of 7 years ago from the first time I saw the movie. Feival and his poor parents live in the slums of the New York sewer. Feivel has A freind named Tiger who is a cat, but he is a vegitarian so he doesn`t eat him. Tiger has I big crush on his love Ms. Kitty who is always playing hard to get with him. Anyway they get a letter from Car R. Waul saying that there is this rich land out west with roads paved with cheeze. So lurded by this they go out west. While on there way out west Feival falles off the train. He has to survive all by himself. So Tiger is trys to find him. A funny part in the movie is where both of them are fooled by mirages and don`t trust their eyes and walk right by each other not beleving it's really them. Eventualy they relise that it really is them they catch up to Feivel's parents. Feivel finds out that the entire thing was a trick. Cat R. Waul is going to turn all of the mice into mouse burgers. And little Feivel has to save them! And well I can`t tell you the rest you will just have to either buy it or watch the movie again! (...)

"I'm Talkin' To You, Furhead!",

This review is from: American Tail: Fievel Goes West [VHS] (VHS Tape)
An American Tail: Fievel Goes West is truly one of the greatest non-Disney animated films I've ever seen! Directed by Steven Spielberg, the story is simple: Fievel, the curious, adorable little mouse from An American Tail, now heads out west with his family to escape the constant violence of New York City. Everything about this film shines from start to finish, including James Horner's soundtrack, which is every bit as good as in the original film. The songs are nothing less than outstanding, especially Dreams to Dream, sung by Fievel's golden-voiced sister, Tanya, who is voiced by Cathy Cavadini.Fans of the original An American Tail are bound to enjoy Fievel Goes West as well. It's a great movie for kids, or for anyone who enjoys a great animated flick! Highly recommended! (Oh, and be sure to check out the original An American Tail movie as well, if you haven't already. It's just as good!)

Along with An American Tale, the further adventures of Fieval is another delightrul film. The artistry is amazing! The voice-over cast is perfectly selected. Another "classical" cartoon worth having on hand when the little ones come to call! A five-star film offered by a five-star company!

This movie is entertaining, and highly recommended for all. Our VHS version was worn out - the beginning had been "eaten" by a VCR, yet we still fixed it as best as we could, skipped past the crinkled intro, and loved this movie. Having a clean, sharp DVD version is wonderful.

I love this movie! It's much better than the first American Tail movie. I am so glad I get to share this with my children! They have watched it almost non-stop since I received it! I wish that there were more animated movies like this one available more often!

An American Classic,

I have been watching this movie for years and have never seen it grow old. James Horner's soundtrack is phenomennal, inciting emotions of grandeur, adventure, hope, and sadness. The score, to me, really makes the movie like few scores can anymore. The plot is charming and fun, but the American values of heroism and progress are manifested so powerfully that it makes you proud to be from the United States. The ending too is an amazingly emotional scene that will have anybody choking back tears as the sun sets on the horizon. In short, this movie is wonderful and should not be classified with cheap animation but with great American film.

Goes West Young Fievel,

This sequel to "An American Tail" is a fine animated film full of Old West Americana; the stuff legends are made of. It is full of great characters and you may even soon forget that you are watching an animated film. The story and dialogue are that good! James Horner seems to have really come of age with this memorable score. It is as much homage to Copland as it is to the American West. This was James Stewart's last theatrical film. This is a good and entertaining family film, which expounds virtues of loyalty and honor. Highly recommended viewing!
