Lots of good stuff on this one,
By A Customer
This review is from: American Trumpet (Audio CD)
I'd like to get my hands on several of these pieces but they're hard to find. I'm a professional trumpet player, but I think most people would enjoy these highly accessible works. The McKinley is a fun piece if you have a bassoonist and the Gould is a gem. My personal fave is the Carbon for sheer originality and beauty of melody and harmony. Actually, they're all good pieces. Give this one a try!

Important new concerto,
By A Customer
This review is from: American Trumpet (Audio CD)
This album contains a wonderful new trumpet concerto by John Carbon, which has an Impressionistic/Spanish cast . The trumpet writing and the performance are both outstanding and should be an essential part of any trumpet player's recording collection. Great for the general listener as well.

Fun CD,

I like this recording because it has lots of different types of songs on it. I like the McKinley one and the Gould and especially Carbon because it has a Spanish sound to it. I like Spanish composers. Jeff Silberschlag's tone is better in the upper register, but he's def a player!

Lots of variety,
By A Customer
This review is from: American Trumpet (Audio CD)
This CD has lots of variety. Everything from the popsy to the impressionistic (like John Carbon's Notturno for Trumpet, Harp and Strings). Mr. Silberschlag's playing is at all times refined and ekegant and the Seattle Symphony continues to represent new music better than any other American orchestra. Highly recommended.

Lots of good stuff on this premiere disc,
By A Customer
This review is from: American Trumpet (Audio CD)
This disc has a bundle of premiere recordings and they are mostly all interesting and worth hearing. The McKinley piece is witty and engaging, and the Carbon work is sumptuous and romantic. Silberschlag's playing is technically robust and expressive in all registers--he manages a wide variety of interesting tone colors.

Best 20th-Century Trumpet Album I've Heard Yet,
By A Customer
This review is from: American Trumpet (Audio CD)
I like all the works on this CD--Delos should be commended for the compilation. The performances are excellent and both the soloist and the orchestra sound well-rehearsed (refreshing for new music). The Carbon and McKinley works are both strong. Trumpet players will want to get to know these pieces.

I love this guys playing. The carbon song is best, but I like all of it. Carbon's reminds me of a night in Madrid and chills. This guy's playing is awesome.

Great trumpeter/Good music!,

Listen to this CD and learn what good trumpeting is all about. If you like the witty, listen to the McKinley. if you're in a Spanish flair, go for the Carbon (lots of flamenco castanets) and if you are just plain lazy listen to the Sondheim. Great strings.
