It is great to have these guys back and look forward to more in the future.

As for this album, I like their old stuff better than their new stuff, with their old stuff being more epic with a greater sense of journey, space and shades. While there are touches of the Bride Ship, Steal to Sea, The Brother Song and Shine - particularly the title track - none go the required distance for my liking.

My first listening evoked a sense of loss for the late Rowland S Howard. Rowland gave crime's early incarnations that awesome sense of whatever they had. I dusted off Rowland's last album, Pop Crimes, from a few years back as comparison on albums by middle aged rocksters in this genre. Rowland S wins by far. Rowland seemed to live in that poetic visceral world of the unsigned which he presented to us in the form of music, poetry and performance. In contrast, this album seems more about comfortable middle-age seeking to re-enter the poetic world through music. But I can't complain, I'm no pauper, and too of those comfortable ones where the new world is king.

Perhaps it is too much to expect people to abandon their wives, children, posessions and saving to enable a drug fuelled lifestyle in the poetic world just to give us beautiful music. The money is just not there anymore, and don't talk to me about luck.

I hope that they make some haste and summon up some speed so that we do not need to wait so long for the next offering, I look forward to it.

This is a good album and I recommend it.

Arising from Detroit via Berlin via Melbourne, Australia, C&TCS release their 6th album since
1985 and their first in over 20 years. The band plays dark, anthemic, mid-tempo rockers with a
big, rolling, dramatic flair led by the strong baritone vocals of Simon Bonney. Having eight
members in the group gives the songs a full, epic presence and a warm, driving power that
accentuates the sweeping, haunted grandeur of the material. Members have played in Dirty
Three, 16 Horsepower, Witches, Dirtbombs, Outrageous Cherry, Einsturzende Neubauten.
Reminiscent of Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, the Triffids, the Wreckery, And Also The Trees,
Leonard Cohen.

A grand sweeping masterpiece of post punk, blues, country, experimental, rock, symphony. Celebrate the fact music like this still exists, intelligent, provacative, challenging, beautiful, necessary.
