I Walk The Line

Biography

Beginning his career as an outlaw to the Nashville establishment, Johnny Cash has come to define country music over the last 40 years. At first, his unique mix of hillbilly music with gospel and blues made him a perfect fit at Sam Phillips' Sun records, where he recorded such classics as "Folsom Prison Blues" and "I Walk The Line." From there, Johnny signed with Columbia records and embarked on… Read more in Amazon's Johnny Cash Store

Editorial Reviews

American VI: Ain't No Grave, is the sixth and final installment of Johnny Cash's critically-acclaimed American Recordings album series. As with the previous five albums in the American Recordings series, American VI was produced by Rick Rubin.<P>

American VI is deeply elegiac and spiritual, with each song its own piece of the puzzle of life's mysteries and challenges - the pursuit of salvation, the importance of friendships, the dream of peace, the power of faith, and the joys and adversities that entail simple survival. It is an achingly personal and intimate statement, as, from the end of the line, Johnny Cash looks back on a most extraordinary life.

The album is wonderful as is the other Rick Rubin works with Johnny Cash. The sound is perfect, love the acoustics, the overall sound and Johnny's voice is just amazing. As with other American Recordings albums of Johnny - this is a must have.

5.0 out of 5 stars Johnny Cash American VI (LP), April 10, 2010

A must have record if you are a Johnny Cash fan. No trademark Johnny Cash deep voice, it is apparent these songs were recorded in his last days. Only one song on the record is written by Johnny Cash, the rest are covers. However, once the Man in Black covers a song, it instantly becomes his. This album is a reflective look back at his life but also a spiritual looking forward for Johnny in his final days on this earth. In my opinion the first two tracks of the album (Ain't No Grave and Redemption Day) are worth the price of the entire album.

Classic Johnny Cash. Friend, if you're reading this review, you need to move on. This IS Johnny Cash. Sure, the record may not be 180 grams. I bought it and enjoy it. Will it warp? Maybe. But until then I am getting my moneys worth. I play it in the morning and at night when I am relaxing. I feel the older Johnny got, the more personal he was. Slowly, he revealed who he was. This being the last record, you can hear the fear/relaxation of death in the songs. Buy it and experience it for yourself....
