I purchased this product Oct, 2010. I tried getting a tankless water heater but the gas BTU is not enough in my house, so I was recommended this product.
The first two month, I did not see any problem. Dec 31, 2011, I see error message 08.
The product manual describes all error message and the solutions, but I could not understand how to fix the issue. I plugged off and on the power line for several times, but the error message did not disappear. I turned off the system an hour, and turned on, then started working as usual.
Jan 15, 2011, I changed the mode from ECO mode to Boost mode because my friends visit my house. Error 08 was displayed.
I called a company which installed the product. They called to manufacture and got information to fix the issue. The solution was that power off the water heater and use all the water in the tank, and power on. After the solution, Error 37 appeared. Error 37 means "Not enough water flow". I waited for an hour, but saw the same error message.
Jan 25, the problem was fixed by a company which was referred by American Water Heater support team with no cost becase of the warranty. The warranty covers only the first year. WATCH OUT.

We have a family of 6, our previous water heater was a 50 gallon tank. Mornings were terrible before we purchased this water heater, we have now had the water heater for a year and a half and the water heater works flawlessly!!! No more waiting for more hot water, not to mention a lower gas bill!!! Our plumber had recommended the heater and we were a bit uneasy about the price tag, but I am now a firm believer that you get what you pay for. If you use alot of hot water like us, no question every large household should have one, thanks Franks Plumbing for giving us our hot water back!!!

I bought a home 2 years ago in 2011. The previous homeowner bought an American Water Heater in 2004 with a 12 year warranty. The warranty has a clause stating that the warranty only applies to the original purchaser. Now I had had several problems in the last year with keeping the pilot lit. I've had thermal couplers replaced (twice), and replaced a valve, and it is still routinely malfunctioning. I called up AWH and (stupidly) told them I wasn't the original purchaser. They just told me to try a couple of things and nothing worked. They recommended a new gas valve. I said I want repair work done under warranty. They said, "sorry, we won't honor the warranty because you weren't the original purchaser". I told them that this is just a greedy money-saving slimy business practice. Even if the homeowner sold the house a week after installing the water heater, they won't honor their warranty to the new purchaser. What purpose does it serve to conduct your business that way? It's only purpose is to save money, and because they can do it. Their mindset is, "Well, the original purchaser isn't going to care about this and not buy the water heater, because it only screws over the next guy. It doesn't affect the person who bought it, so let's cut off the warranty on the product as quickly as possible." They think they can make some cost-cutting measure like this without consequences because they got nothing from me directly. But I bought this house and everything in it, and paid for it, including a water heater that came with a warranty. I spoke to 3 customer service people and a supervisor and the supervisor just says, "that's what the warranty says." He even says he understands how I feel and it recently happened to him on something he bought! Yet he says they "can't" do anything.Read more ›
