5.0 out of 5 stars Great value
This scale is a great value for the .01 gram precision it offers. Once calibrated it is quite sensitive and accurate. Mine came quite far from calibrated, but based on the other reviews here it appears this is only a fluke. I purchased this exact scale from this seller for reloading. Its important to have .1grain resolution, as is advertised. It does not, its .2grain. Contacted seller (scales n tools) they said that it was a manufacturing change and offered to take it back. Fair enough. They still havent changed the ad on here though, so they are purposely misleading people with false...

This review is from: American Weigh Signature Series Black AWS-100 Digital Pocket Scale, 100 by 0.01 G (Kitchen)
This scale is a great value for the .01 gram precision it offers. Once calibrated it is quite sensitive and accurate. Mine came quite far from calibrated, but based on the other reviews here it appears this is only a fluke. The scale is lightweight and very portable, being roughly the same size as a Nintendo DS Lite. Build quality is good; it looks like it will last a long time if used properly and carefully. Comes with two AAA batteries and a space for storing a pair of extras. Very nice scale for the price.

One hint about calibration: if you forget to buy the 100g calibration weight, you can simply use 20 U.S. nickels, as each nickel is exactly 5g.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great scale at this price, March 15, 2009
This review is from: American Weigh Signature Series Black AWS-100 Digital Pocket Scale, 100 by 0.01 G (Kitchen)
I've had this scale for a couple years, and I'm very happy with it. It's accurate, repeatable +/- 0.02 grams on different days, and has held up through moderate handling (nothing abusive, but stuff that I'd never put my lab scale through).

It uses what I call a "floating zero". This is good and bad... When within 0.03 grams of zero and steady, it displays 0.00 and slowly adjusts its zero. If you slowly add 0.01 grams at a time, you can get it to drift way off, and when you eventually take off all the weights at once, it'll display -0.20 grams or whatever their weight was. The good is that the scale, despite its inexpensive mechanism, keeps very good zero calibration between measurements. The downside is that it makes small measurements difficult. If you want to weigh out 0.15 grams of powder, you can't just tare your weigh paper and then gradually pour it on - the zero will drift unless you add the first 0.05 grams quickly enough. Instead, you can NOT tare it, and manually subtract the weigh paper.

This feature is not a problem at all unless you're weighing very small (less than 0.1 grams) items on a regular basis. I think this is an acceptable compromise for a pocket scale of this precision at this price (and it's practically standard until you get to much more expensive equipment), so I am not marking any points off.

I bought this to weigh polymer clay for forming beads. It's very sensitive, it can detect a small scrap of plastic wrap. It has a tare function if you need to use a piece of paper as a carrier for what you are weighing. The actual scale plate is small (2 1/2 by 3 inches), and the weight limit (100 grams) is also small,so it cannot handle a large object. You could weigh letters, but not packages. Very easy to use.

I am in the process of getting my old analog playback equipment out of storage, and needed an accurate, reasonably priced scale to calibrate the tracking force of my turntable tonearm. This scale has worked quite well, being accurate to the hundredth of a gram. It's nice that the display is back lighted, and the unit is well made. A good buy.

This is a very nice little scale. I have checked it to another scale. Both read the same. (Lee Safety Powder Scale) This is used to weigh gun powder. Make sure the AC vents are not blowing on this scale, it will change your read out. Oh, and you will need the Calibration weight. You will need to order it too.

This is an ideal scale for coin collectors, jewelry or any need to weigh small items under 100 grams. I used to work in an engineering lab this has a real nice instrument grade feel it is not a toy. At reasonable price you can weigh to 0.01 gram other pocket scales only weigh to 0.1 gram. Has Gram, OZ, Carat, Grain and tare weight modes very easy to use and portable. Don't forget to order the 100 gram calibration weight also. You will not regret this purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars I am happy., May 2, 2008

I purchased this device so that I could measure the minerals that I add into 'pure' water. The idea is that my local tap water is toxic to the fish in my 55 gallon aquarium, so I use reverse osmosis water. RO water has no minerals, fish need some, so I enjoy being able to measure out mineral additives to a .01 gram resolution.

I did test this with a hand full of coins (and the US Mint weight chart) and all came in within .04 grams (coins vary).

I did buy the 100g calibration weight. As it turned out, my device was calibrated 99.99% out of the box. Nothing wrong with that.

Ken

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product-Great Value, November 29, 2007
The scale came quickly, packaged well, and calibrated right out the box. The lighted display stays on all the time and tares itself when first turned on. Measures in grams, ounces, grains, and carats. Came with 2 AAA batteries installed. Overall it is sturdy and durable and measures very accurately.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great affordable scale!, August 20, 2010

This review is from: American Weigh Signature Series Black AWS-100 Digital Pocket Scale, 100 by 0.01 G (Kitchen)
I purchased this yesterday with my Prime membership and received it in less than 24 hours! The scale was not 100% calibrated when I got it (reading 100.08 with a 100 gram weight). I did purchase the 100 gram calibration weight (which is the one you need to calibrate this scale). It took only seconds to get it calibrated and worked perfectly after that. For those who said the batteries were dead when you got it, you do need to remove the batteries and unwrap the plastic from around them before they will work. I am very satisfied with this little scale. I plan to use it for dosing out supplements that I bought in raw powder form to put into gel caps (also available on Amazon). I did take away one star because it claims to measure in .01 increments, but once you get to very low weights, it goes in .02 increments.
