Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

While Frances Fitzgerald, Gloria Emerson, and several other noted women authors cited here are hardly "unheard voices," this well-composed bibliography's attempt to identify a women's perspective on the Vietnam War is valuable. There are nearly 800 entries, each with good descriptive annotations, covering the full range of fiction and nonfiction published between 1954 and 1987. The inclusion of Barbara Garson's satirical play MacBird , popular in the 1960s but not well known today, is one of many entries indicative of thorough research that went into this compilation. Periodical articles come from scholarly titles such as Far Eastern Economic Review as well as nonmainstream magazines like Off Our Backs . Former Army nurse Lynda Van Devanter's best-selling memoir Home Before Morning is included, but so are less famous memoirs by other women doctors and nurses in Vietnam. Highly recommended for academic libraries.
