Product Description

Amazon.com Review

Introduce an element of classic charm to any outdoor area with this classically styled cedar arbor--frame a walkway, give your garden a focal point, or encourage creeping vines. Crafted from beautiful western red cedar, the arbor is 84 inches tall (7 feet) and 42 inches wide, not including the two built-in 14-inch planters that rest on both sides. Sealed with a clear preserve to weather rain and snow, the cedar with mortise-and-tenon joinery will last for years to come. The arbor's design is stunning by itself, but will be more beautiful when covered with ivy. Manual assembly takes about an hour, but power tools will shorten assembly to roughly 30 minutes. --Ariel Meadow Stallings

Product Description

1.0 out of 5 stars 3 Months Later...It Fell Apart, October 5, 2002

My beautiful garden arbor that I've had only since June finally collapsed into 3 pieces. As you might have read in my previous review, my husband and I fortified the shoddy construction with additional screws and glue. It just really couldn't withstand the Texas heat. I'm not sure what happened to the thing, but it started rotting on the top/center about 2 weeks after we set it up. Then, the side rails split and finally broke on one side. And it was just sitting there! No more big storms, just the Texas heat. Maybe it melted the glue? Who knows, but my money did not entirely go to waste. I've cut off the top on one side and saved both planters. They are still in one piece. My new advice, pass on this arbor

The arbor is a very handsome, looks great and strong. Easy to assemble but keep in mind that you need additional screws to keep the planter together, some sides are supposed to be glued on but it does not hold.
I'm glad i bought it, a good entrance to my backyard.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Looking, Flimsy Construction, June 17, 2002

I have been researching garden arbors for about a month now and was really excited to see this one...

Once assembled, the arbor is beautiful and smells wonderful...good quality cedar. The bad news is that it arrives unassembled (obviously) and is shoddily constructed using STAPLES. Unfortunately, in shipping, the arbor was actually broken in 4 places. Fortunately, my husband is an excellent carpenter and they do include wood glue with the screws used to put it together. We patched it up, then took about 2 hours to put it together, and added an additional 4 screws for extra support. That night we had a massive, unexpected storm and we expected to see the arbor strewn about the yard. It had been blown over, but was in one piece.

Overall, I do recommend this item if you are handy with wood and don't mind spending a little extra time putting it together. It is a great, expensive looking piece when completed.
