Decent Product, Great Price,
By A Customer

This review is from: American Woods 1535 Large Cedar Work/Potters Table (Lawn & Patio)
Like I said elsewhere about AmericanWoods' chairs equally applies to this table - pretty darn good product at any price, great product at this price (140ish) plus free shipping. This table is actually decent sized and looks pretty good. Quality is a bit of an issue since one side of the frame underneath the table top was split and required gluing/set screws to reattach. It doesn't look like any structural problem, but maybe a bit cosmetic(although underneath the top maybe no one will notice). Also, one side of one of the slats on top came loose (glue came undone). so a bit more glue and a screw to hold in place. I guess these comments are all relative: to me no biggie, to someone less mechanically inclined- maybe big deal. Plus, repairs don't matter since its a work bench, not a display piece. Otherwise thing looks good (understanding its cedar and "combined" wood at that (not one solid piece)), and seems sturdy. Quality gets a 2 to 3 stars. Ease of putting together gets a three to four star. Looks/use gets 3 to 4 stars. Overall without cost might get 3 to 3and1/2, but with price it gets a five!

Item described is not item shown...,

The item's description is not the item pictured. I ordered the potting bench after just looking at the picture. The item I got is much more like the potting bench with he lattice top and no covered tub area for potting dirt. It's nice - but be carful and check to see if it is the correct bench before putting it together. The item number and description of the item i got all match to order - it's just the wrong picture.

Overall a great buy for a functional product,

I ordered this bench back in January 2003. It took a while to arrive, but I was very surprised that most of the assembly had already been done for you. Like a previous reviewer stated, many of the lengths of cedar are finger joined. After having the bench for about two to three months now, I've had no trouble with the construction of the bench. We've had a lot of rain lately, but the bench is withstanding the elements! I did, however, have my husband drill small drain holes in the plastic tub and also in the wooden drawer. This bench is just the right height and very handy to have when re-potting. I keep my potting mix in a sealed container on the lower shelf. Again, a great buy and I'm not disappointed with this product at all.

Potting Table,
By A Customer
This review is from: American Woods 1535 Large Cedar Work/Potters Table (Lawn & Patio)
I was so excited when I saw this potting bench and with free shipping it was a great deal. My husband called me to tell me it had arrived and he would put it together. Well when I went outside to see the table I was disappointed because the potting bench was very different from the photo. I called customer service and they apologized and offered to send me another one. Again the wrong bench arrived. So I just kept the one they sent me originally. I like the bench I have but its definitely not the I ordered.

Overall I am pleased with this table. However, I am concerned that the legs and some other pieces are not solid pieces of cedar; instead they are finger-jointed pieces of wood. Probably won't stand the test of time.

What a deal,

Bought this during a Friday sale for under $40 with free shipping. Only regret is that I didn't buy at least 4 more for family members. Actually using this in my kitchen for recently purchased dehydrator and vacuum food saver. Took about three days for the heavy cedar smell to disappear. Absolutely beautiful table, easy to put together and will definately last. Not sure if I would pay the $199+ price tag - but at under $40 (and no shipping) it was one of the best purchases from Amazon during the holiday season.

Big Surprise,
This review is from: American Woods 1535 Large Cedar Work/Potters Table (Lawn & Patio)
I purchased two of these as Christmas gifts. I was astonished at the super fast shipping. They both arrived on 12/24 and I had ordered them only a couple of days before.
Construction was easy and the quality was great - I am so pleased with them.

killer deal, but inconsistent quality,

This has been the best deal I have made with Amazon. $40 shipped to my door, and arrived on 12/23/04! All parts were accounted for. Assembly was easy (screwdrivers). Table seems solid, no wobbles. I am not using the S hooks for the lattice. I didn't want to risk damaging it.
Calming down after the insane price rush, reality kicks in, and, well, I sure wouldn't pay $180 for it. (Sorry, American Wood) While I can't speak for all of these, I can tell you that the wood quality ranged from very good to crappy. The table top is solid and the wood is well colored and the grain is attractive. The cross pieces are made from scrap. Mine have up to three mends in them. Some of the lattice is like this, too. Some of the wood had splintered. Yuck. Most of the joins are with a staple. The drawer has pressed cardboard bottom. I strongly reccommend you varnish it. If you are really ambitious, it could use some more sanding. It will make it last longer and look better and maybe glue it together a little more. I also added pads to the bottom of the legs. It really made a difference. The table top looks MUCH better-very warm and glowing. Now it looks like a good quality piece. I am keeping it in my dining room for now. The extra flat space is great. This table also has a slide-out extension on the right. Thanks, Amazon!

The Perfect Potting Bench,
This review is from: American Woods 1535 Large Cedar Work/Potters Table (Lawn & Patio)
Received product in a timely manner and arrived in good condition. I did have to re-drill one of the holes connecting the lattice, however, it was no trouble. Although I cannot attest to its durability after inclement weather (we've had none) the potting bench is very well built.
Thank you from Florida! |
