Wonderful anthology!,
By
This review is from: American Yiddish Poetry: A Bilingual Anthology (Paperback)
This is a wonderful anthology - contains in Yiddish and English a large selection of poetry by major American Yiddish poets. The editors/translators provide a very helpful introduction dealing with history and form(s) of Yiddish poetry, its relationship to modern European and American poetry. The translations themselves are generally excellent. The appendix includes fascinating documentary material otherwise difficult to come by - and impossible to find elsewhere in English. One can only hope that the anthology - reprinted now for the first time since 1987 - will stay in print.
