5.0 out of 5 stars A very good book, February 2, 1998

This review is from: The American Yoga Association's Wellness Book (Paperback)
As a patient of Fibromyalgia I can say : this is the book I was looking for. If you have a health condition and need to exercise on a regular basis as well as relax, do not hesitate to buy it. It is very informative and easy to undestand even if you never have done yoga before.

4.0 out of 5 stars A very good book, July 11, 2001
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This yoga book goes over basic yoga poses in good detail, with well done explanations of how to do each pose properly. It also goes over weight management, talking about set point, dieting sensibly based on the standard food pyramid. There is a nice chart of weights based on BMI- Body Mass Index. Your BMI should be around 20 to 25 for average weights. It calculates your weight and your activity level and gives you the number of calories per day you need to stay at that weight. Then they recommend cutting back 500 calories a day from that number to lose weight- but never going below 1,200 calories a day. I took a lot of nutrition courses in college and this book covers all the basics. It does delve too deeply into the subject, but does a very nice overall job at explaining the basics of nutrition and dieting. There is also a section on guided "I love you" meditation. Based on the theory of loving yourself will lead you to not want to do harm to your body and overeat or fill it up with junk foods. I am not too fond of this section of the book, but the Yoga workouts are very good and through, and so is the weight management section. I like this book much better then the American Yoga Association Beginner's Manual, which I also bought.
