A must read for those interested in American historiography!,

This review is from: American Historical Explanations: A Strategy for Grounded Inquiry (Paperback)
Gene Wise until his untimely death dealt worked in the American History-American Studies field. As someone who has thought deeply about American historiography this book made a great impression on me when I first read it twenty-five years ago. I have since re-read it three or four times and intend to do so again. If you are familiar with Karl Mannheim's work on the sociology of knowledge then reading Wise's book is definitely for you -- for its many suggestive lines of thinking and future research.
Granted there is some repetition throughout the book, but that is unavoidable when the author is still working out what were then and still are some very intriguing ideas. |
