Terrific songwriting, beautiful singing, great arrangement and instrumentation. I can't believe it's been 9 years since this was recorded. If you live in Southern California, find one of their shows and go.

I have to say I am a real fan of this CD... Its got a wonderful poetic quality to it and manages to make you feel like you have been pulled back to a slower paced more innocent time... I love the variety - the pluckiness of some songs like Cowboy Dancing, or Vacant Lot and the lilting quality of others like When I Get My Rewards, great harmonies in Farm Wife, the moodiness of Long Black Veil, the humor in Playin' Cowboys... Kelly McCune has lovely voice. It is very clear with hints at range (like in Sad Sound) that doesn't lose it expressive quality -- sometimes earthy or poignant, sometimes with a subtle humor... and the instruments, cello, dobro, fiddle mix really wonderfully to make an interesting blend of both old style country and a more urban jazzy sound...

In an age in which every performer feels obligated to insert "soul" into a song, the pure vocal control heard on this album gave me goose bumps. I was in my garage the other day, half listening to the radio, when I heard the most haunting rendition of She Wore A Long Black Veil. I just stood there and listened, transfixed. The vocal control was so pure, and so sustained, I dreaded the song ending. I simply didn't want it to end.

Then I ran to the telephone, called the station and found out who these folks were.

I am a long time listener of bluegrass, country and folk bands. And I think I know what a demanding song Long Black Veil is; I've never heard it done so heart-breakingly well.
