About the Author

Mary B. Mackley recalls her awareness of civics engagement while participating in patriotic parades as a Girl Scout, and working on a project on the Bill of Rights in grade school. Later, she took AP History classes through St. John's University in NY. She presented guided tours and interpretive programs at the Carl Sandburg Home NHS during and after obtaining her B.S. Biology. She then obtained her B.S. Nursing and has worked as a nurse for 25+ years. She has especially enjoyed opportunities to teach and educate her patients. She never lost her enthusiasm and passion for the National Parks, including the American History and natural wonders they provide us all. She wanted to write this book to provide a teaching tool for children, a reference for adults to review American History and Civics, and provide a wealth of information for those who may not be familiar with early American History. As a bonus, she thought it would be good for everyone to have their own copy of the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution, and the Bill of Rights.

Americana: A Civics Handbook is something every home could benefit from. It's factual and unbiased with links to reference websites to back up the information. It's reader friendly and holds a wealth of educational facts about our nation's history and development of our governmental system. Covering State flowers, birds and trees, history of the Pledge of Allegiance, all the way to our Bill of Rights and our Constitution. So when you want to talk about our Rights or the Constitution, this is a good, easily accessed reference.

Definitely a good resource for anyone or any home.
