A very stirring recording, February 22, 1999

This review is from: Americana (Audio CD)
This album was a prize when it was available on vinyl and it's even more of a very special prize now that it has been reissued on CD. A few of these performances will bring a lump to your throat and send chills and goose bumps up and down (if you can listen to "The Battle Hymn of the Repblic" or a musical adaptation of the words of President John F. Kennedy, "Ask not" without watering up a little bit, you're a stronger person than I). Robert Merrill shows off his glorious vocal gifts and versatility in songs like "America the Beautiful", "Beautiful Dreamer", "Oklahoma", and "Blow the Man Down". This is a truly great sampling of, I feel, the greatest Baritone voice of all time, Robert Merrill. Everyone simply must own this recording. Thank you London/Decca for finally reissuing this wonderful album!!
