Criticism is abundant when it comes to this release from Dexter and the boys. "They've sold out"..."They're turned into a pop group". Nonsense, I say. Admittedly, a lot of the tracks are far less raucous than their previous work, but if people were to look past this, they'd find that the lyrics are just as intelligent and witty as ever.

'Pretty Fly (For A White Guy)' is a long-awaited mockery of the hip-hop culture, 'Walla Walla' deals with crime and the consequences and 'Americana' shows us that The American Dream isn't all it's cracked up to be. While it may not be up to scratch with neither 'Smash' or 'Ixnay On The Hombre', this is still a great listen and deserves to be included in every Offspring fan's collection.

With all the "punk" fans out there trashing Americana, I'm not so sure I WANT to buy the other Offspring CDs. Every track on Americana is awesome, like Pretty Fly, Why Don't You Get A Job, Walla Walla, The Kids Aren't Alright, and Feelings. Everyone should buy this CD. It rocks!

Almost every song on this album (...). "Pay the man" is one of the best songs. It lasts for 8 minutes and yet it isn't boring, AT ALL. If you liked Smash, you'll love this. I even find this album better than Smash. It's just total pwnage!

I own 5 of the 6 Offspring albums, 'Americana' is the one I listen to least. The band has switched its style, image, and lyrical-messages to appeal to a larger, dumber, and younger audience with 'Americana'; much of the depthful punk-attitude from their previous cds was lost in this one.

If you're thinking of buying this because of songs like "Why Don't You Get a Job" or "Pretty Fly", then you won't be dissapointed. Most of the album sounds like that. If you're looking into 'Americana' as a continuation of older albums like 'Smash', 'Ixnay', or 'Ignition', keep in mind that this sounds nothing like any of those. With this album, Offspring have (de)evolved into a more poppish-angry sound.

First, I shake my head at those who label this pop and therefore won't listen to it. Stylistically, yes, perhaps our Orange County boys have changed a bit, taken a bit less of an angry young man approach, but they've replaced it with wit and depth. It's too easy for an album to complain, it's another thing entirely to make you think, while still pumping out punk in a day when punk is on a respirator and Dexter and Co. not only provide but provide with style. Maturity has served them well and this album is an all-time favorite with me, equal to Smash and Ixnay any day.

Anyone who loves rock should get this CD. When I bought it, the only songs on it that i knew were Pretty Fly (For a White Guy) and i had only heard Why Dont You Get a Job once. Now, about a ten months later, i love every song on it. Its probably one of the best CD purchases i ever made.

I mainly bought this for the 4 hit songs "Pretty Fly for a White Guy", "Why don't You Get A Job?", "The Kids Aren't Alright", & "Shes Got Issues", which are all great songs, and a few other good ones include Americana, Staring at the Sun, and Pay the Man. It also does something cool when u put it in the computer. But seriously, if u just got into the Offspring and are looking for this album, get one of their older albums first, like Smash, Ignition, & Ixnay on the Hombre, or their hard-to-find self-titled debut. Still this is good, but if I had to choose between this and Smash, Smash would definitely be it.

This is the only cd that I have ever give five stars to. The reason is because this is one of the only cds that I don't get bored of and I love the sound of it. All the songs keep a very fast beat and none of the songs are love lyrics. All the lyrics refer to common day life views and things that go on. I can't really pick a favorite song for this cd because I love all the songs. If you like this cd as much as I do you should look at some other Offspring cds like Smash and Ixnay on the Hombre.

Sometimes in life we listen to albums which rise in our respect and reach great levels of liking. We appreciate them and wish they always are respected by everyone around. Americana is nothing like this. It is a salute to music in its own wierd form of a straight fisted NO APOLOGY attitude.

Its energy that comes not from youth but from life. Eddie Vedder was only partially correct when he said ALL THATS SACRED COMES FROM YOUTH.Americana is the true total sum of the feeling of punk , inspiration , pent up anger and love.....

Way back when it came out , I purchased this record with a view to buy something worthwhile.You can say it was my first ROCK album. Did it Rock? Not! Did I Headbang? Not! DId I fly? HELL YEAH!

The Album starts with a polite welcome which leans into HAVE YOU EVER which makes you think you've entered a room as such which the lyrics speak about."Staring at the sun" starts just when you think you're still but your mind and heart is pacing faster than ever."PRetty Fly.." Is something you can choose to love or hate but it will always be there, "Kids arent alright" is something that totally seems to heat things up and its a song a lot of NON OFFSPRING FANS appreciate too. Someone said "Feelings" was a filler.I think its a decent tune all the same."Shes Got Issues" Is just about as catchy as they come. Its a great funny song we all can relate to sometime in our lives.Track 8,9 carry on NO BRAKES which is a great straight out energy filled track."why dont you get a job?" is the reason I purchased this CD. "Americana" Is simply awesome with its brute and energy topped riffs.

Pay the man is something I choose to dedicate a paragraph too. To me this is not only the best song on Americana but also the best song Offspring have so far released or I have heard by them. Its progressive and I can call it a masterpiece and truly the best finisher I have ever heard in my entire life(some 200-300 CDS)It reaches a stage where your neck bangs without any control. Its just as intense as music gets.

I cant use words to describe this one album which is quite unique in its own way. Its something I can sing from start to finish non stop.After about 500+ Listens, I think Offspring gave this album everything they had. I dont even like Punk or whatever you call this music. Call it pop/rock/metal/goth/emo...whatever TO ME IT IS THE MOST ULTIMATE STRAIGHT OUT HONEST ENERGY ALBUM EVER!

Alright, this is not just a great album, but a really great album. It has a hard time staying out of my cd player. Every song deserves to be on the radio, and four of them already are. The Offspring have also created very creative lyrics for Americana.

Welcome is a short intro that does a good job starting off the album. Have You Ever is a great song that has a nice, singable melody that you will sing for months. Staring At The Sun is a pretty good song with a nice tune to it that you will also be singing for months. Pretty Fly, one of the singles from the album that is probobaly the most well known, is a great rock song with a pop twist to it. The Kids Aren't Alright, another single from the album, is another song with a great melody that you will be singing for weeks or months on end. Feelings is a good rock song filled with a lot of angst. She's Got Issues, another single from the album, is a great song with a really great melody. Walla Walla is another good song that isn't full of angst but it isn't full of angst. The End Of The Line is a really good song that is very tragic. No Brakes is a great, fast-paced song with a nice chorus. Why Don't You Get A Job, another single, is a pop song that gets boring after listening to it too much but it is still a good song. Americana is a good rock song with a lot of angst. Pay The Man is an OK song with a wierd Egyptian melody.

I have no favorite songs from this album, they are all favorites of mine. This album has some swears but not many. (Note: if you listen past Pay The Man you will hear a version of Pretty Fly with Spanish backround noises.)
