Book Description

December 20, 2002
America''''s Best Kept Secret: FairTax My book tells about a bill in the U. S. House of Representatives and the United States Senate. This bill allows you to take home your gross pay minus state income taxes and voluntary withholdings. This bill means a 25.3% minimum increase in spendable income for you. The monthly rebate check ensures that all necessities are not taxed. My book explains the rebate and shows how much your family will receive. The FairTax is the only tax plan that totally untaxes the poor.If you've read The FairTax Book by Neal Boortz and Rep. John Linder you may be hungry to know more. Their book became #1 on the New York Times bestseller list before it came out on August 1, 2005. America's Best Kept Secret: FairTax contains the research that lead to the creation of the FairTax. If you want to be able to answer any question about the FairTax this is the coffee table book to have. This book is over 310 pages with easy to read 12-point font single-spaced. It is divided into six major sections:1. Why America needs the FairTax, 2. Who is Americans for Fair Taxation?3. The experts speak: Why America should vote for the FairTax.4. Impact of the FairTax on constituent organizations and aspects of the economy.5. Congressional hearings on the FairTax.6. Where do we go from here? Do you know about the "Mad Dash to Buy" before the FairTax is enacted? Be informed! Don't fall for the hype spread by the uneducated. Americans for Fair Taxation hired the independent researchers that developed the FairTax over ten years spending over $22 million. They conducted surveys in major cities to determine what Americans thought would be the easiest, least obtrusive way to be taxed. The FairTax is a replacement tax. It is not tax reform. It is revenue neutral, which means that it collects the same amount as our current system.· Who were the researchers?· What were their findings?· Who started this whole thing rolling?· How did it keep going?· Who s

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

America's Best Kept Secret: FairTax was first published on December 20. There were 11 days left in the year and it still made number 22 on 1stBooks bestseller list for the fourth quarter of 2002.

From the Author

No American taxpayer likes our current tax system. According to a poll more Americans are afraid of the IRS than they are of God. This 90-year experiment with an income tax has not worked. The IRS says that we spend 25% more than we report in income. The voluntary reporting of income has failed. It's time for an easy, efficient, and fair system to take its place.

The forms we return to the IRS would go around the Earth 36 times if laid end to end. A majority of taxpayers require professional help to do their taxes. Even then there’s no guarantee that the return will be error free. This is because of the complexity of the tax code. There are 45,562 pages in our tax code including judicial rulings. A former IRS employee stated that there are no forms returned that do not have at least one error.

Americans will spend 6 billion hours doing their taxes for 2002. The cost of complying with the tax code is estimated to be anywhere between $250 and $500 billion. That’s between $1,000 and $2,000 for every man woman and child in America. Our tax system is a huge anchor on our economy. We have better uses for that time and money.

Our tax system adds 20 to 30% to the cost of every service and product. Our trade deficit was a record $435 billion in 2002. Foreign consumers refuse to pay the high prices caused by the embedded cost of our tax system. Other countries have a value added tax (VAT) and when foreign companies export products they receive a refund for the VAT on their products. Our companies cannot compete; it is not a level playing field.

The FairTax will lower prices an average 22% on our goods and services. The 23% FairTax will bring the total cost for new goods and services to about where they were before. But, with the FairTax, you take home your gross pay and get a monthly rebate. Used goods will not be taxed. You will be able to save more quickly for a home, college, or retirement. Secondary education or training will not be taxed.

5.0 out of 5 stars So You Think You Know All About FairTax? Think Again., April 28, 2005
This review is from: America's Best Kept Secret: Fairtax: Give Yourself a 25% Raise (Paperback)
Even if you already know and support the FairTax, this book is a must-read.

First it describes how the FairTax came about, a question that comes up often in discussions! This is no fly-by proposal. On the contrary, it is the result of a 10-year study by major economists from universities like Stanford, Harvard, Rice, MIT, and more. The book names names: Who paid for the study and why, what they're doing now and what they plan to do.

Americans for Fair Taxation has a lot of information on their website but this book has even more. Here you'll find a collection of articles, charts (rebate calculations, comparisions of all kinds, estimates, costs, etc.), letters, studies and results.

There's a great chapter on the "Impact of the FairTax on Interest Rates" that will make everyone sit up and take notice,

There are sections on how the FairTax will impact businesses like home builders, financial services, mining, oil and gas, and more -- even timber-related industries!

Most amusing and delightful is "The Twelve Days of a FairTax Christmas" beginning on page 56 and written by a FairTax staff writer.

FairTax, by giving every worker his/her entire paycheck, makes every day Christmas Day.

In short, this book tells the reader who needs the FairTax and why, who are the people behind it, what the experts say about it, gives the impact of the FairTax on the economy and various organizations and businesses and chronicles the history of hearings already held on the subject.

If you think you know all there is to know about the FairTax, this book will prove to you that you don't.

If you don't know anything about FairTax (and if you're a taxpayer you owe it to yourself and your family to find out), this is a reliable, complete source of information.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perhaps Mr. Velocipede Is Right ..., November 29, 2005

This review is from: America's Best Kept Secret: Fairtax: Give Yourself a 25% Raise (Paperback)
I've read the book, looked over all the research, and have come to the conclusion that nothing is guaranteed in this world. So the Fair Tax is not perfect - so what? The income tax, on top of being unwanted by the founding fathers, is patently unfair and has more flaws than there's time to name. The Fair Tax IS the closest to perfection we have and it can continued to be tweaked right up until enactment (as long as the primary features are retained).

As for the comment I read about government spending being the real culprit - yes, it is. But if the government were serious about balancing the budget, they could do so easily by actually enforcing the collection of income tax. If government did they might even be able to adjust the existing income tax brackets downward because there would be an instant and huge surplus. So why not take the government mostly out of the equation, and thus the temptation away, so that market forces can determine how much the Fair Tax will collect? Capitalism has a way of doing its own thing, and better, without government interference.

Go, Fair Tax!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Kept Secret Indeed, March 17, 2003

It is indeed America's best kept secret. A few pages into this book you will wonder how come this tax reform bill didn't get voted into law yet. The author describes the H.R. 25 bill that proposes the FairTax tax reform and presents a list of extensive research papers that explain how it will affect the American economy. In addition this book is an easy and enjoyable reading.
I am convinced.
A must read for every American tax payer and voter.
