4.0 out of 5 stars What a variety!, February 25, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: America's Bread Book (Paperback)
I've had this book for about a year, and return to it often - whole grain hippie breads, quick breads, oddities I'll never make but enjoy reading about. It's all homey and cheerful, appreciative and old-fashioned. The Taos pumpkin bread is great, my sister loves the one-hour rustic Puerto Rican bread.

4.0 out of 5 stars Variety without trendiness, October 25, 1997
This review is from: America's Bread Book (Paperback)
You'd have to be blind not to notice that bread is the "in" thing right now. With the proliferation of baking stones and bread machines right now you might as well jump on the bandwagon. M. Grubers book has a wondrous of variety of recipes (none of which call for the aforementioned items). Even better, America's bread book demonstrates the amazing scope of people within these United States. As well as putting some tasty eats within reach. I checked this one out of the 'brary so many times, I finally had to buy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars The possibilities are endless!, July 28, 2001
By A Customer
I love this book because I love to bake! It really is a shame that it is out of print because the art of this book is how the author combines an account of her culinary journey across America with the different recipes she found along the way. Bread has long been a staple of society's most basic bonds and a culture's deepest roots. The way America's regions are bound together as well as distinguished by their unique breads is like a whole new plane of American history! If you can get your hands on a copy, buy it today.
