This 160-page book contains over 120 drawings (I own the originals) of Uncle Sam, drawn by some of the most famous editorial and political cartoonists in the United States. They date from 1904 to 1989. Many were Pulitzer Prize winners. Included with many of the drawings is a brief synopsis about the artist. While some of the drawings include comments written by the artists, many stand on their own and you can judge for yourself what was happening in our country during that particular year.
Truly an educational and informative volume to be enjoyed by history buffs, art students and political science observers alike.
It is a gift of talent and patriotism from a special group of artists who could galvanize public opinion about a political or social issue. Most of the artists worked for well-known newspapers and/or magazines.
It is definitely a one-of-a-kind as I own the collection. A portion of the proceeds go into an art scholarship fund which I established in memory of my late husband. He was an art director for the Gannett Company for over 30 years.
