5.0 out of 5 stars Long Lost GEM, April 28, 2005

Thanks to the successful release of the classic TV show THE GREATEST AMERICAN HERO on DVD, you now have the chance to visit (or revisit) theme song singer Joey Scarbury's great solo album, originally released back in 1981 when the show was on the air.

This a great album that includes some excellent music. Scarbury has an incredible voice and it's a shame his career was not more successful overall. Aside from the ever popular "Believe It Or Not" GAH theme song, there are quite a few other gems here like "Everything But Love" (written by GAH song writer master Stephen Geyer and Joey himself). Other great tunes include "When She Dances" (Top 50 hit / Billboard) and "Some Of My Old Friends" (which is the only other song, aside from the main theme, that was originally written for the TV show but then later turned into a full version for the album's release).

The CD has been fully remastered and sounds incredible. On top of that, an OUTSTANDING job has been done on the packaging of the CD (CD artwork, booklet, inner tray - it all looks GREAT). I HIGHLY recommend this CD!

I just purchased this CD online and I have to say, it is one of the best CDs I have ever listened to. There are only 10 songs on the CD but I enjoyed all of them. My favorite was of course BELIEVE IT OR NOT, which is the theme song from my all time favorite show "THE GREATEST AMERICAN HERO". You can never hear that song too many times. I also loved "LOVE ME LIKE THE LAST TIME and THERE IS A RIVER. There is a longer version of SOME OF MY OLD FRIENDS, which is from the episode "The Best Desk Scenario" from "THE GREATEST AMERICAN HERO". This longer version has some extra instrumentals which makes it a more lively song than the one played in the episode. I would recommend this CD to anyone who is a fan of the "THE GREATEST AMERICAN HERO".

This album was out of print forever, it seems, and with the release of the Greatest American Hero series on DVD, it since has been re-released. I am very happy to have purchased a copy through Amazon and have always enjoyed the music on this album. BELIEVE IT OR NOT, the title theme to the series, is the best song on here. There are at least 3 other good songs as well. I especially like EVERYTHING BUT LOVE and LOVE ME LIKE THE LAST TIME. Joey's voice reminds me very much of James Taylor. I recommend this CD because I love early 80's music.

3.0 out of 5 stars A fun CD for old "Greatest American Hero" fans, December 4, 2005
This review is from: America's Greatest Hero (Audio CD)
I grew up with "The Greatest American Hero" TV series and have always been a fan of that show. I owned this Joey Scarbury album on cassette back when it was first released as a compliment to the show.

To be honest, the music on this CD is a far cry from the music I would ever normally listen to. But as I am a fan of, "The Greatest American Hero" TV series, I was so sorry that they changed the majority of the music for the DVD release of that show. This CD is the only way to hear the songs - or type of songs - that used to be such an integral part of that TV series.

So, this CD in it's own right is not something I would have ever likely have found or chosen to listen to on my own. Honestly, I don't know that it is such a great album. But hearing it now, I like it a lot and it does bring a rush of nostalgic associations to the TV series as it used to be, and memories of my life when I owned the cassette tape way back when....

4.0 out of 5 stars great cd, May 20, 2006
This review is from: America's Greatest Hero (Audio CD)
I had an old LP that has long since died and had a tough time finding anything online. I was very surprised to see the recent release and tickled to death that I get to listen to some music from my childhood that I loved. Loved the show and love this CD. Glad to see that they released this cd and look forward to listening to some songs from my youth.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's the Greatest!, September 25, 2005

I also had the original LP version. It's great that it is now on CD. The show is one of my personal favorite as well as the CD. What would have been a great bonus for this CD would have been an extra CD a soundtrack from the show, like Desperado and maybe the instrumental version of Greatest American Hero (ending credits).
Another great is WKRP In Cincinnati. Somebody buy the rights to this classic gem and make it availible on DVD!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Gem!, February 26, 2007
This review is from: America's Greatest Hero (Audio CD)
This is one of my all-time, most-favorite albums. I have the original vinyl and recently discovered the reissue on CD. Had to have it.

You may remember the TV series for which he sang the title song. Joey also did a multitude of songs for other TV series including "Hunter" and others. I understand he also had a lounge act in Las Vegas which I wish I could have experienced.

Every song is a gem! I owned a white, 3-piece suit in the 80's. Believe it or not!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars I Really Do Like Every Song on the Album, August 1, 2011

Obviously, you bought this album (when it first came out in 1981) because you loved the theme to 'The Greatest American Hero'. What was really a nice surprise was that the rest of the songs were terrific, too. The bulk of these songs were written by the team of Mike Post and Pete Carpenter, the duo who wrote the theme to TGAH and other memorable TV shows ... not the least of which was the great theme to The Rockford Files. To say these guys can write a catchy, irrestistible song would be understatement. Each of these ten songs is constructed with maximum pop-ability, each tune so memorable you really can't get them out of your head. But all this wouldn't matter much of Joey Scarbury himself couldn't do justice to these songs. He can. His voice, matched with the smooth instrumentations of his studio band evokes (to me, anyway) a southern California sound that hasn't been heard much since the late 1970s. Joey can belt out a song -- the standouts being "Everything but Love", "When She Dances" and "Backstairs of my Life". Why he never became a bigger star than he did is really a mystery. I really do like every song on this album. You can put it on and listen from beginning to end and enjoy every bit of it. These songs are firmly established in the pop category, but a moving/serious lyric and idea will get through and take the whole thing to another level (i.e., "Backstairs of my Life"). The songs are highly enjoyable and Joey is a great interpreter of this particular songbook. And remember, there's that great song from "Greatest American Hero."
