5.0 out of 5 stars the best of the bunch
This video is a great way to view the many great rides out there such as: medusa, jokers jinx, apollo's chariot, alpengeist, volcano, twister, the great bear, raging bull, superman the escape, riddlers revenge, ghostrider, dueling dragons, incredable hulk, and finally gwazi. The only drawback is that the dueling costers are shown on only one of the tracks not both...

1.0 out of 5 stars Blasting Techno Music Ruined It
I wanted to sit back, and feel as if I were on these great rides. Instead, they made the ridiculous decision to add loud music to the rides. There are two main senses involved (besides the body feel - which of course they can't supply) . . . sight and sound. You want to hear the wheels whirring, the air rushing by, the screams and the silence at the top of the first...

The only drawback is that the dueling costers are shown on only one of the tracks not both. Also that medusa is almost fast foward it goes through its circuit so fast! overall it is a 70 minute video with no annoying host like the original movie. Any die hard roller coaster fan shouldn't be without this amazing video!

4.0 out of 5 stars THE TRUTH about this video!, February 4, 2000

"coasterguy" (Coaster Capital of the world) - See all my reviews
This review is from: America's Greatest Roller Coaster Thrills: The Next Generation [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Unfortunatly, a lot of false rumours about this video have been spread. If you look at the back of the box, it clearly states that this video is 70 minutes long, and it features 14 rollercoasters, not 27. There is no section about freefalls (other than Superman), there is no section of computer footage about future coasters, and there is no such thing as "River Beast" Now, with all the flasehoods aside, this is a must have video for any coaster fan. It covers nicely some of the coasters that have been built since the last 3d video. While I have seen dozens of coaster and amusement park videos both old and new, this is one of the better ones. The only things I don't like is they only show on-ride video of 1 side of Dueling Dragons and Gwazi, essentially only showing 1 half of the ride since both tracks are different. Also, the on-ride video of Medusa is played at a ridiculously high speed. I'm sure many people will be checking to see if it's on fast forward. Those things aside, this documents nicely 14 of the greatist coasters built in the last year or 2. I reccomend it!

Phenomenal, long awaited follow up to the first three videos with great footage of some of the best coasters of 99 (and 98 and 97). Features: Medussa, Joker's Jinx, Apollo's Chariot, Alpengeist, Volcano, Twister, Great Bear, Raging Bull, Superman the Escape, Riddler's Revenge, Ghost Rider, Dueling Dragons, Incredible Hulk and Gwazi. Total running time is 70 minutes. Best of the series and a must have for any coaster enthusiast.

5.0 out of 5 stars Producer Comments, November 27, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: America's Greatest Roller Coaster Thrills: The Next Generation [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I'm the producer of this video (and several other roller coaster videos)and I felt compelled to reply to some common complaints. 1) Dueling Dragons is seen from only the Fire Dragon perspective. This is true. In all parks, we were under the gun to get in and get out as quickly as possible so as to not interfere with the park's most important task - serving their visitors. We were given 45 minutes to gather our required footage on Dueling Dragons. We just didn't have enough time to shoot rider perspective on both Fire and Ice. 2) Medusa runs too fast in the rider perspective (POV) shot. True. The day we shot Medusa it was very overcast and drizzling. Most of the footage we used, therefore, is footage provided by the theme park's advertising agency. It was EXCELLENT footage, but they had speeded up the rider POV coverage of the Medusa ride experience. We tried to slow it down to normal, but when doing so it dropped frames and became jerky. We decided it was better to be too fast than too jerky. 3) The Great Bear is freaky. This is also true. This is another weather problem. When we visited HersheyPark with our cameras, it was not raining, or drizzling, it was POURING down rain. All day! On top of this, we were not permitted, by park authorities, to mount our camera on the coaster. It would have damaged the paint. So we were forced to use our "helmet cam", (described in the DVD version)and came away with an inadequate amount of footage to build The Great Bear ride. HersheyPark provided us with footage from their advertising agency to supplement what we were able to gather. What they provided and what we shot were so different that we had to do something "freaky" with the picture to make the two blend together. Hence the "freaky" look. (I kind of like it.) Several people asked when the DVD will be available. It is now available - but it is being marketed under a slightly different name, which is why you can't find it, I guess. It's called America's Greatest Roller Coaster Thrills - The Ultimate Scream Machines, and it includes everything in the VHS version PLUS a bonus coaster, BuzzSaw Falls in Branson, MO, several interviews with coaster designers, theme park personnel, me and my director of photography and some theme park side bar stories and histories of Cedar Point and Kennywood. You'll love it! It contains a total of about three hours of programming, including the various angles shot on the roller coasters. I hope this answers the complaints, and thanks for your interest. The Producer

5.0 out of 5 stars Cool Beans!, March 21, 2000
This review is from: America's Greatest Roller Coaster Thrills: The Next Generation [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I just recieved my copy, finally, but now I am so content its not funny. Its amazing. All of the roller coasters, with the exception of two are great and mezmorizing. The only complaints I have are how they sped up Medusa and the weird camera trick they did with Great Bear. Other than that, cool stuff. That's my two cents.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intense, March 4, 2000

This review is from: America's Greatest Roller Coaster Thrills: The Next Generation [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This video is truly the best I have ever seen. The footage on the coasters is intense, not missing a thing. The video spends more time on the coasters than the people which is a definite plus. The soundtrack is themed very well for each coaster and the video even includes info on the parks that the coasters are located in. If you are a coaster fanatic, do yourself a favor and get fantastic video.

5.0 out of 5 stars Roller Coasters are made to have fun, June 24, 2001
This review is from: America's Greatest Roller Coaster Thrills: The Next Generation [VHS] (VHS Tape)
And I like this video because it focusses on no other argument. Whenever I take a ride on a Coaster I am looking for exitement. People who buy this video get a pretty good idea of what the featured coasters are like, so they will know what to expect before planning a trip. I really can't understand why so many viewers of this video are upset. It is not a documentation. If it were a documentation, the producers would have shown a lot more footage about the technical specifications. Instead, this

video gives its viewers just good entertainment.

Many high-quality coaster videos can be found with this video. However, several of the POV videos are distorted or tweaked out in some way. There are many B&M coasters showcased though, so if you are a fan you will enjoy the video anyway.

Great video! The coasters are presented great! The only complaint is the usual one. The Great Bear and Medusa on-ride view. Other than that the best coaster video yet!

This video is the bomb! It's the best out of all the Roller Coaster videos I have! I thought that a camera coulden't get hooked on the Hulk because it was to wild but I was wrong. But I does stink that they only show one side of the duling Roller Coasters. Anyway this is a must get Coaster video!
