Book Description

December 1, 2005
• Dynamic portrayal of the original dream of the founding fathers of this nation — to have “one nation under God” • This magnificent book is another big winner by the same creative team that brought you the best seller Noah’s Ark! What happened to America’s dream that men would be free and God would be their king? A nation founded on the belief that the God of the Bible and the principles expounded within its pages should be the foundation of the government, the law of the land, and the duty of the citizenry was the dream of a people who set forth from their heritage and traditions, from their families, and from the mother country that persecuted them for their religious beliefs. The probable perils of a vast ocean and the elements overwhelming their small sailing vessels, the imagined treacheries of a foundling colony in a savage land, the foreboding unknown that lay before them, none of these deterred the small group of refugees held together by the dream: to be one nation under God. The same team who created the wonderful True Story of Noah’s Ark presents the story of a people and a dream, a people that have lost their vision over the past four centuries, a dream whose meaning has been diffused in the same time-span. Artist Bill Looney’s illustrations are inspired, dramatic, and touching as they paint the story told by Tom Dooley of America, from her godly roots to her current humanistic attitude. Dooley’s text is brief, covering selected events and people who courageously took a stand to defend our nation, our beliefs, our very being.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Foundational Truth, July 25, 2008
This review is from: America's Lost Dream (Hardcover)
This book helps us to understand that the Founding Fathers fashioned "separation of church and state" to prevent secular government from legislating religion in the public arena and interfering with religion in the private arena. However, the "religion" in question was the dominant religion of their day and the one in which the nation had been founded upon...Christianity. The framers were certainly not concerned that Hinduism, Buddhism or Islam were going to develop into a tyrannical force in American government; this thought would never have entered their 18th century minds. At its core, separation of Church and state means that the one of U.S. Government has no right to legislate religion; ones individual spirituality is the private business of every individual citizen unless it results in criminal activity. It must be kept in mind that the undeniable fact remains that nearly ALL of the Founders would have called themselves Christians, Theists or Deists. The plain truth is that like it or not, America was built out of a Judeo-Christian world view and upon a Biblical foundation; there is simply no way around that and no amount of "kicking and screaming" will re-write history. All fair-minded individuals are encouraged to read Gary DeMars book, "Americas Christian History" in order to intelligently weigh the data. BTW, for those who prefer to live in a non-Christian country there are plenty of of them out there to choose from - that's one of the nice things about living in a free world - oh, one word of caution...If your a big fan a FREEDOM I would recommend staying here.
