5.0 out of 5 stars An extravaganza of color and Victorian charm!
Each picture is more gorgeous than the next! On a more serious note, there is practical information on architecture and authentic Victorian painting techniques. I learned a lot about how to identify the type of building style, and got my fix for Painted Ladies more than satisfied. This is a comprehensive, informative, beautiful book, and I recommend it highly.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting but not enough close up pics
We are renovating a 1900's home and hoped there would be ample photos to help us choose our new color scheme. The book had good info but was short on close up photos and did not provide detailed info on paint colors.

Will be donating to the local library, am sure others will find it beneficial.

5.0 out of 5 stars The pinnacle of the series, August 13, 2003
This review is from: America's Painted Ladies: The Ultimate Celebration of Our Victorians (Paperback)
Taller than any of the other books and nearly twice as thick as the thickest, this gorgeous 1992 volume (Ms. Pomada, isn't it time we got a fifth??), once again produced with the help of partner Larsen and photographer Keister, is, like Daughters of Painted Ladies: America's Resplendent Victorians, a survey of Victorian homes from all over the country. From Searsport, ME, where the subtly detailed, white-bodied Mansard Carriage House Inn welcomes its guests, to a pink 1887 Steamboat Gothic in National City, near San Diego, here are dozens of Victorians, large and small, somber and vivid, plus an assortment of interiors, some fully period, others furnished in more contemporary style against the richly detailed background of the time. If you buy it to "get ideas" for your own Painted Lady, you'll find more than you can choose between. If you buy it just to look at, be prepared to spend hours drooling! A treasure trove for lovers of period detail, which is so admirably brought out by the creative combinations of color used in decorating these buildings.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must For Victorian House Owners, July 23, 2004
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: America's Painted Ladies: The Ultimate Celebration of Our Victorians (Paperback)
A fantastic book, a must for anyone who is thinking about painting a Victorian house. It was very helpful to me and my husband who had to come up with a color scheme for our three-story Queen Anne built in 1895.

If you're in the same boat, then you know that deciding on a color scheme for a detailed Victorian house isn't easy and takes careful thought and consideration. This book will help you. It will give you countless ideas, and just looking at the photos is inspiring.

And then, the book will appeal to any fan of Victorian architecture as well. I love looking at the numerous photos of the houses and find myself thumbing through it again and again. Every time I look at this book, I see something intriguing that I hadn't noticed before. Such a book serves to keep me inspired during the remainder of our home's renovation, which is trying at times.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Victorian Eye Candy!, March 14, 2002
This review is from: America's Painted Ladies: The Ultimate Celebration of Our Victorians (Paperback)
My husband and I bought this book to get ideas about color schemes to paint our Italiante Victorian home. WOW! Are there ideas here! This book is page after page of gorgeous photos of Victorian homes all over the country. I'll be honest and say that I've read little to none of the text, but I have spent literally hours looking at the pictures. It is also one of the most frequently looked at books by guests in our house. People just love to look at the pictures and "ooh" and "ahh" at the beautiful homes.

We liked it so much we bought "Daughters of the Painted Ladies" too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Reviving a Painted Lady in Maine, June 29, 2000
This review is from: America's Painted Ladies: The Ultimate Celebration of Our Victorians (Paperback)
What a thrill it was to find a book that was dedicated to one of the most appealing houses ever built.. the Victorians. I learned so much from reading this text and each time I look through the pictures, I find another feature in these grand houses to focus on. There is so much to learn that I only concentrate on one aspect of the house at a time. I want to get all of the texts before we start to apply the first of SEVEN colors that we have chosen for our 'Painted Lady'!

5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT Model Reference: Beautiful Pictures, Beautiful Homes, September 27, 2005
This review is from: America's Painted Ladies: The Ultimate Celebration of Our Victorians (Paperback)
Believe it or not but the main reason I purchased this beautiful book was for reference material for scale model building (i.e. LEGO, etc.). I was hunting forever for a book on Victorian homes--with pictures of the OUTSIDE (as most of the books on Victorian architecture deal with the classic interior designs, furniture, etc.). LEGO and Victorian homes go hand in hand, as this book's wonderful color pictures perfectly illustrate--who could imagine such combinations would actually look so stunning!? In addition to excellent photography the text is well written, with interesting facts about each home, why it's unique, yet how it fits into the overall "Painted Lady" lineage... excellent. :-)

This review is from: America's Painted Ladies: The Ultimate Celebration of Our Victorians (Paperback)
We were so inspired by the beauty and detail of the Pomada/Larsen Painted Ladies series that we searched and searched until we could find one locally to paint. Alas, the title of How to create your own painted lady by the same authors can't be found..... Anyone know where we can get a copy?

WOW!! This book is truly a feast for the eyes, and that's no exaggeration! There are so many first rate photos and plenty of text. Every page has multiple color photos. It is a very heavy book! The paper is high quality and the photos are extremely high resolution and stunningly beautiful. What a great job they did just in printing this book! If you love Victorian homes, then this book is a must have! I like it so much I think I will eventually buy a brand new hardcover copy of it (I bought a used paperback copy). I plan on getting all the other books in this series too. Some of the very best Victorian homes are in this book. They kind of remind me of Disneyland with all the colorful paint schemes and fanciful shapes and decorations.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book about "Painted Ladies.", August 22, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I bought this book because building owners in my town are being encouraged to paint their Victorian structures like "Painted Ladies." This book has hundreds of examples of this type of painting, and the write-up that accompany the pictures are fascinating. I love the book.
