5.0 out of 5 stars Quilting is much cheaper than psychiatry...
... and you have a thing of beauty when you're done!

I was lucky enough to scoop this book up in our public library. It was the beauty of the cover that attracted me. I had never quilted before, but had wanted to learn how. I knew this was not a how-to book, but was aimed at an audience who had more experience than I. It assumes you have some knowledge of terms...

3.0 out of 5 stars Its ok but not great
I got this book for the house pattern on the front cover, I just started quilting and wanted to start a house blanket. Its has some really cute stuff and some stuff I would never make. The directions are a little harder to understand than some other books I have but if you kinda know what your doing than you probably will be fine. Its just an ok book to add to my library.

... and you have a thing of beauty when you're done!

I was lucky enough to scoop this book up in our public library. It was the beauty of the cover that attracted me. I had never quilted before, but had wanted to learn how. I knew this was not a how-to book, but was aimed at an audience who had more experience than I. It assumes you have some knowledge of terms and techniques, like strip piecing, but a short beginner's class will bring you up to speed fast enough! I have never been disappointed when buying a book by Liz Porter and Marianne Fons. The instructions are clear and concise, and you can avoid some pitfalls if you follow the instructions literally, as in assembling star pieces in the same order as they do - it makes it lie flat and you can ease the seams together better.

I also like the little tidbits they throw in. They're a wonderful team and they write wonderful books. I did my first strip-pieced Starburst quilt in a class that made alot more progress than I did and I used this book to finish the project. It's a great addition to any home quilting library.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quilting Projects, May 28, 2009
I love this book -- made the quilt on the cover and several others in this book. It has lots of interesting and different patterns and it's one of my favorite quilting books purchased so far.

5.0 out of 5 stars Red, White and Blue Fast Quilting Book, November 15, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Better Homes and Gardens has done a great job putting together a very modern quilting book just for patriotic quilting. This book is full colorful pages offering patterns marked for three levels of quilting; New Quilter, Confident Quilter, and Expert Quilter. The quilts are all in red, white, and blue, then they are shown in other colors in chart form. I also love the spiral bound pages as they make following the book as you go much easier. I recommend this book and its modern fast quilt patterns to all quilters.
