I can't believe Homer & Jethro are finally on CD! I've been listening to their records since I was a kid, and I got damn near all of them. If you like Zany Comedy, THESE two nuts are for you!!! They were the Weird Al Yankovic's of their day, taking the popular songs of that era, country and pop, and completely slaughtering them. I LOVE 'EM!!! BUY IT! BUY IT! BUY IT!

If you like pickin' and singin' done with a smile, this CD is for you. Homer and Jethro were AM radio hit makers in the 40's, 50's and 60's. If you are not familar with Homer and Jethro, let this CD be your introduction. Lots of fun here and all tracks are ORIGINAL RECORDINGS. Well performed and produced. Good liner notes with pictures. The only problem is you will not know where to put them in your labrary; Comedy?; Country?; Favorite Listening? I love this CD and so will you. Go ahead and buy it. You'll be glad you did.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous, wickedly funny, GREAT musicians, January 31, 2003

This review is from: America's Song Butchers: The Weird World Of Homer & Jethro (Audio CD)
I grew up listening to Homer and Jethro albums and I'd like to think their music helped shaped my (admittedly twisted) values and kick-started a lifelong love affair with bluegrass mandolin and musical anti-snobbery. Seriously, folks -- these two fellers were total genuises. As befits true genius, they were humble and thus free to be incredibly, and accurately, funny. Some may think this music is corny; can't win 'em all. But those of you who aren't up on some petard will recognize that what Ken and Henry did way back when is *timeless*. A gem. No home is complete without this CD!! Wonderful music to bring home to the kids, too!

I'm so glad that this material finally made it to CD. Now people can finally hear for themselves the true geniuses these two really were. Not only were they funny, but they were also great musicians. A must for anyone who enjoys good clean country humor.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a great cd, November 29, 2001

This cd is a great collection of Homer and Jethro's greatest hits. There is a new 3 cd set of Homer and Jethro music just released in time for their induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame. It's called Country Their Way and has many songs never on cd before. You'll love both of these cds!!!!!!

If only RCA would issue H&J's "Live at the Country Club" on cd. Then the world would find out just how great this duo was. The recording was produced by none other than a young Chet Atkins and their backing band was Boots Randolph and the Coral County Car Strippers. Many of the songs from this compilation are performed but their sly humor and natural comedic timing are showcased only on the live album. If this is all you can get ahold of then get a copy. For now I'll continue to cherish my vinyl lp for the rest of my days.

5.0 out of 5 stars No wonder Spike had them as guest stars..., May 15, 2003

The first I heard from them was "Pal-y-atchee" (or how do you spell "Pagliacci" Spikewise), and some charlestons with backing by the City Slickers. Apparently, they where a genuine act on their own (hey, I'm European, how could I know?). For people with classifying troubles: I put them under "Novelty", along with Spike Jones... and Raymond Scott. Well, none of them is there anymore (unfortunately) to protest...

5.0 out of 5 stars Nashville Cats, August 30, 2002
This review is from: America's Song Butchers: The Weird World Of Homer & Jethro (Audio CD)
These two were no slouches when it came to musicianship, top shelf studio hands. They used these comedy cuts to reach out, stretch out and have some fun. When I was a young buck, I used to just plain crack up listening to them. I'm glad they're back on CD. Thanks

This is a solid compilation of some of Homer and Jethro's best recordings for RCA Victor Records. They were country music's foremost comedy duo for over 20 years. Although a lot of their humor will seem "corny" to modern listeners, it still is pretty funny. Fans of humorous music should get this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best of America's Song Butchers, October 8, 2001

Homer & Jethro were the best in the business. I have a good 33 1/3 colection. It's hard to find their recordings now. This CD has some of their "best"works of butchered hits. Wish they were still around. Nobody can butcher like they did. Their the best (worst). We need someone like them to keep our spirits up in these times of evil. United We Stand Richard Willis
