Book Description

2001
American pilots of World War II were required to submit a written report after every single mission detailing what happened in the air that day. This is an assortment of those combat reports from some of the greatest American aces such as: Francis Gabreski, Chuck Yeager, George Preddy, Hubert Zemke, Richard Bong and Thomas McGuire. Read their firsthand experiences as they down enemy aircraft, tear through bomber formations, get peppered with machine gun fire, and fly crippled planes home. A must read!

3.0 out of 5 stars Collection of 8th AF Combat Reports., March 28, 2006
This review is from: America's Top WWII Aces In Their Own Words: Eighth Air Force (Paperback)
Aviation historian Bill Hess' latest book is basically a collection of combat reports filed by top 8th AF aces like Don Blakeslee, Francis Gabreski, Don Gentile, Duane Beeson, Robin Olds, Dave Schilling, George Preddy and others supplemented with mini-bios and photos of the pilots and their aircraft.

If you are an adrenaline junky, look no further - the combat reports take you into the heart of action. If you want more, you will have to look elsewhere because that is basically all the book has to offer.

In short, the book is enjoyable but a lightweight. An optional purchase.
