5.0 out of 5 stars Amerika!- now in english!
That's right! Amerika is one of the three singles off of the new Rammstein album "Reise, Reise" (or "Voyage, Voyage" or even "Arise, Arise" in english). What a shocking song this is! My goodness! I guess that the best thing to say about this song is that you have to buy the single before you can really understand how much fun- and how unoffending- it really is. The lyrics...

3.0 out of 5 stars Kind of a wierd experience
Amerika is a very interesting song because it provides a primary source on the outside perspectives of our country, without any media spin. But, considering it can also be found on the album Reise, Reise (ausgezeichnetes Album, uebrigens), which is probably cheaper than this single, if the song is all you're after, you may consider going there insead.

The lyrics are actually very pretty- and anyone who went and looked up the translations would understand the more melodic sad side to the song. I wonder what would have happened were this song released by an american group! Certainly not as much contraversy- you think that the new "Perfect Circle" album would attract more attention! This single is LOADED with great remixes and even an english version of the song that is VERY good! I also LOVE the Western remix by Olson Involtini! It's got GREAT sound clips and is totally jazzy! The CD also includes the incredible Orchestrated Opera version (not sung or played by Rammstein, to let you know) of "Mein Herz Brennt" it's amazing! What a way to finish! Kick back- put on this cd, don't get worked up about it- and if you do, turn to that "Perfect Circle" cd and perhaps you'll forget about this one and focus your energy elsewhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amerika, May 27, 2005

This song is about American culture spreading around the world. Have you seen the video? Germany as well as other countries have helped a lot in the tsunami efforts. And the government as everyone knows is corrupt. You have to admit the chorus is addicting. Don't take this song the wrong way.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun song, November 30, 2004

I really couldnt say im a huge fan of Rammstein but i do like them. I recently came upon this song and even though I am a conservative, pro American patriot(lol) I do love this song despite its obvious cheap shots at "Amerika" Like one of the other Reviewers said, sometimes we need to laugh at ourselves. The song isnt malicious nor does it land any low blows its simply a satire of how commercial America has become. Whats strikes me as funny....is that Europe is just as commercial they just dont like to admit it. Which is why i suppose these guys say "We all live in Amerika"

5.0 out of 5 stars Go Rammstein!!!, November 11, 2004

Well, first of all, I kinda liked their music for quite some time. Of course not all the songs, but still, some were really great. But when I first heard Amerkia and saw the video, I totally liked it. I thought it was a hell of a song and even a better video. And there is also even a greater message in this song and video. They say it just the way it is: 'We all live in Amerika,...'. I may not never like all their songs and think that they are the best band in whole world, but I will respect them, because they are not affraid to say what they think.
Beside this message, I must say again, that the song itself is also really great, so if you ever come across their cd, just get it. It's worth it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Take it easy, AMER-R-RIKA IST WUNDERBAR-R-R, November 4, 2004
This review is from: Amerika (Audio CD)
The song in question, though definitely not the best of Rammstein, neither instrumentally nor vocally (hence the 4 stars from me), still is good enough to listen to, and (as far as I know) has been in European charts, so I guess we should take it a bit like its subject -- the USA -- it is here, like it or not.
Satire? Well... what's wrong with that? Satire is generally healthy, it is good for you. Besides, the ability to laugh at oneself is an indication of intellect.
Funny how people react - we might chew tonnes of popcorn through hours upon hours of innumerable Hollywood movies ridiculing practically everybody else on the planet - Arabs, Chinese, ex-Soviets, Latin Americans, you name it - and we are perfectly cool with that but when someone else's joke lands close to home, we immediately tense up and assume a defensive pose. It might be comforting for the offended people to learn that on another Rammstein's album, "Reise, Reise", the song "Amerika" is followed by another satire "Moskau" - so what? I am ethnic Russian and I LOVE THAT SONG (even though it IS much worse - both instrumentally and vocally - than "Amerika"), I often play it in my car on my way from work :) The line "young pioneers here and there sing songs to Lenin" brings a nostalgic tear to my eye :)) Well, maybe not a tear but definitely a good laugh.
As for "we helped you out X years ago so you'd better show some respect", well ... how to comment the uncommentable? I suppose we'll just have to postpone the political discussions until Rammstein becomes German chancellor because so far "AMERIKA" is only a PRIVATE opinion of a group of people, small but pretty talanted, as far as I can judge. Nothing more, nothing less.

4.0 out of 5 stars Just fun, just remember where we all came from., November 8, 2005
This review is from: Amerika (Audio CD)
The song is great, the lyrics do poke fun, but's all in the name of entertainment. Yes My country is not perfect, but my country has done alot of good throughout the world. I guess we get the most pricks because we are the world's largest superpower in terms of political influence & economics. At the same time us as Americans should really not poke at Europe or other nations as much as in part we were formed because of Europe. Europe in essence is our mother so we should show a measure of respect, & believe me, politically we do. I've been in the military before having served in Europe & we share alot of technology w/them. We as Americans do have a bit of arrogance, but remember a bit of that arrogance was fostered from Europe when they were the top of the world. We are just new at this game. Having only been a world superpower in the middle of the 20th century. France, Great Britain, Germany, Spain, Russia all had their moments in greatness. History has seen to that so that will never fade. I in part am part Dutch, Russian & Spanish. Europe has contributed very much to the world for the past few centuries, & still does to this day. There were moments when mistakes or tragedies had befallen us, but those mistakes & tragedies have helped shape us all to where we are today. We are in essence a lot of Europe & a little bit of everywhere else. When I served in the military I served alongside w/guys whose familes were from different countries, mostly w/European surnames. So for good or bad, when we look at ourselves in the mirror we see you & you see us. When I see Rammstein I just see 5 guys who happen to be German entertainers, good ones at that. They may never be a big act in America, but they are a good act. If they ever come to town, I recommend to check them out because all in all it's all just for fun. God Bless all.

3.0 out of 5 stars Kind of a wierd experience, August 31, 2009

Amerika is a very interesting song because it provides a primary source on the outside perspectives of our country, without any media spin. But, considering it can also be found on the album Reise, Reise (ausgezeichnetes Album, uebrigens), which is probably cheaper than this single, if the song is all you're after, you may consider going there insead.

The single also features "Mein Herz brennt" (which can also be found on Mutter), a remix of "Amerika" (which is exclusive to this single), and the "Ich will Orchesterlied VII" (which came from the album Mein Herz brennt).

The remix of "Amerika" was just plain wierd. I didn't like it. It sounded as if someone had dropped a nuclear bomb on the song and now all that's left is a mindless, musical zombie wandering the streets without any direction or will of its own and feeding on the brain of the unsuspecting listener. At least my brain felt mushier and, well, eaten after I listened to it.

The "Ich will Orchesterlied VII" is really creepy. It doesn't sound a thing like the original, most likely because it's orchestrated and the guy who's singing doesn't even sound human. It's scary. You really need to hear it for yourself to truly know what it's like because I'm not entirely sure how to explain it.

When it comes right down to it, the main reason I bought this one in the first place was really just to add to my collection of Rammstein stuff. For that purpose, it does the job very well. As for actual utility, I guess you could use the "Ich will Orchesterlied VII" to scare your friends at night, but you'll probably get more screams from the Mein Herz brennt album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Phenomenal CD, October 31, 2008
This review is from: Amerika Pt.1 (Audio CD)
As Rammstein continues to grow in their musicianship, we the listeners are treated to CDs such as this. Their strong Metal roots remain, and each version of "Amerika" is done with captivating beats, great vocals, and unique combinations of instrumentation. This is a must have for all Rammstein fans.
