5.0 out of 5 stars Someone else gets what I'm going thru! March 28, 2012
Format:Paperback
I've been trying to get pregnant for over a year now and it's great ( well, not great but helpful) to read about another woman sharing my pain and frustrations. I won't give away the ending but .... I'm happy and sad for her. A good read.

Heartwarming, heartbreaking, funny and inspiring all at the same time. I cried, I laughed, and I rooted for Sarah the whole way through her roller coaster journey right to its satisfying end. Highly recommend!

5.0 out of 5 stars Such a giggle and very moving.. May 19, 2012
By Boylett
Format:Paperback
A friend of mine recommended that I take a look at this and I read it in one sitting. Breezily, intelligently written, very funny in places and genuinely moving in others. I particularly liked the gossipy parts about the New York/LA media scene and the way that stuff is balanced-out by the touching personal story underpinning it all. I've already passed it on to a friend who claims to have read it quicker than I did. I think she's lying.

I enjoyed reading this book immensely, with the Author's honesty and humour really making this book fun and easy to read. The Author's all-comsuming desire to fall pregnant is clear and very personal, making it feel as if you are reading her diary, being allowed inside her thoughts and knowing her secrets. The Author made me consider how important being true to who you are is and appreciating all that life has to throw at you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally! Someone tells it like it is! May 9, 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
One of the most brutally honest, refreshingly raw and laugh out loud funny books I've read in a while. Sarah Ivens has a life -- and lifestyle -- most women dream of. Yet, she bravely draws back the curtain, exposing Oz -- the downside of life in the fast lane.
After summoning the courage to walk away to pursue her dream (the man, the baby, the house, the south), she finds to her dismay that this tale doesn't have a tidy, happy-ever-after ending.
Which is when the real story begins. The story of how life will throw you a curveball -- or ten -- just when you think you've finally got it all figured out. From death to depression, fertility issues to a frustrating first year of marriage, she shares her story honestly and humorously -- thanks to her razor sharp British wit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not just for the Wannabe Mums May 9, 2012
By RSL
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I read this book and loved it. I smiled and laughed (sometimes out loud....on the London Underground......collecting disapproving glances!) as I moved from page to page. I am sure that many hopeful wannabe mums with find endless parallels when reading this book but as a single girl who has a good career, wonderful friends and is not alarmed by the ticking biological clock, there is still so much to enjoy; the Mars/Venus relationship between men and women, dealing with success and failure and being true to yourself. Sarah's writing is so articulate and cleverly humorous; Amerikarma is a joy to read. I love the way she splits herself open; and mocks her shortcomings and celebrates her strengths, something we call could learn from. 5 Stars from me!

As soon as I received Amerikarma, I picked it up and couldn't put it down! Sarah Ivens is an honest writer, who so openly shares her life with us. This is more than a book about struggling to have a much longed for child; there's something in here for every thirty-something coming to terms with big life changes; career, the loss of a parent, a new marriage, parenthood. Bravo to Sarah (and Russ!) for making it through the tough times. Funny, thoughtful, poignant and well written, I can't wait for the next installment to hear Sarah's take on motherhood!
