Now, if you are reading this now, and contmeplating buying this, I am sure that you know what you are looking for since this album dropped nearly 7 years ago. This is no doubt in my mind the second greatest album ever produced, second only to All Eyez on Me from 2Pac. Spice 1 has a very distinctive flow unmatched by any rapper today. Phat trax are Hard to Kill (method man). Strap on the Side, Jealous got me strapped (2Pac), the list goes on, worth every penny, I personally have purchased this disc 4 times, only to have it taken or lost, each time.!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Speezy Ace delivers another classic, November 2, 2004
By
This review is from: Amerikkka's Nightmare (Audio CD)
For his third album he came out hard as as muthafu*ka and created a classic album. The beats are great as well. Production is handled by BLACKjack (8 songs), Ant Banks (4 songs), and DJ Slip, Spice 1, and Battlecat each do 1 song. It has 6 songs I'd consider classics, 2 near classics, 3 good songs, 3 ok songs, and 1 that I skip. As with most of his early albums on Jive, the guest list is small (guests are on 4 of the 15 songs) and he has a classic dis track aimed at Pooh-Man. One of his 2 best cd's in my opinion (probably his best) and a must have for any rap fan. Spice is one of the hardest rappers ever and it's a shame people over here on the east coast don't really know about him as he should have sold many of platinum cd's as he makes classic after classic and all his material is fresh. GET A COPY OF THIS, it's one of the best rap CD"s ever (and I have over 600 rap albums).

#1 - 9 (f/ E-40)
#2 - 10 (classic dark track)
#3 - 10 (another classic - one of my favorite songs ever)
#4 - 10 (f/ 2Pac (R.I.P.) this is a great song and one of my all time favorites too)
#5 - 7 (slower song)
#6 - 9.5
#7 - 10 (classic track f/ Method Man)
#8 - 6
#9 - 7
#10 - 10 (a classic)
#11 - 8
#12 - 9
#13 - 9.5 (f/ 187 fac)
#14 - 7.5
#15 - 10 (classic track dissin' Pooh Man)

Spice 1 is one of the new artists that I've gotten into over the past year. I first heard him on Too Short's "The Dangerous Crew" from the classic "Get In Where You Fit In" album, and on MC Eiht's "Nothin' But The Gangsta" from his "We Come Strapped" album. Both albums are dope and I suggest you pick them up. As for Spice 1's "AmeriKKKa's Nightmare", I feel that it is a slept on Bay Area classic. I really didn't know about Spice's disceography that well, but I bought this album because I was on amazon and saw that a lot of reviewers said this was his best album. Also I saw this (as well as all of his albums) being sold for around 9 bucks about a couple of months ago, and didn't want to pass up the offer.

Most of these tracks, Spiggity Spice rhymes about the street life and about guns as well as shooting up people. "Face Of A Desprite Man" surrounds those types of subject matters while Spice rhymes over a sick Ant Banks beat. "Strap On The Side" is another dope song over a Blackjack beat as he lays down the remerable line "Can't **** with the East Bay G". Another great song is "Jealous Got Me Strapped" where Spice as well as 2Pac drop classic verses. "Three Strikes" is a good track that I was feeling. And to close out the album, Spice lays down a funny diss to Pooh Man on the song "You Done F'ed Up" (the end of the song is hilarious).

Guest appearances are excellent as well. Aside from the 2Pac appearane, Wu-Tang Clan's Method Man drops an excellent verse on "Hard To Kill". The opening track "D-Boyz Got Love For Me" features E-40. And on dope song, "Give A G A Gat", Spice passes the mic to his crew The 187 Fac.

This album isn't flawless, but I don't believe that they are worth pointing out. Spice 1 dropped a Bay Area classic back in 1994 with this album. I agree with a lot of reviewers when they say he doesn't get any airplay outside of the Bay Area. Jive Records really should have pushed and had more promotion for him because I doubt people in the south heard of him either. I'm not sure how consistant he is with his album since I only have two of them, (this and "The Black Bossalini"...also a dope album). Fans of early 2Pac will enjoy this album a lot, but I recommend that any rap fan give this a listen. Peace!

In response to one reviewer, Redman does not appear on this album.

In response to yet another reviewer, this album did not receive 5 mics from The Source Magazine.

This cd is simply a classic. Spice1 comes his hardest in Amerikkka's Nightmare. Strap on the side is one of the best songs ever. His other song with 2pac is really well done also. You won't be disappointed. Get It!

5.0 out of 5 stars ------ A MASTERPIECE!!! --------, December 2, 1998
This review is from: Amerikkka's Nightmare (Audio CD)
This album is awsame and is one of the most perfect albums I've ever heard. Everything is on the highest level possible. The production held by BlackJack, Ant Banks, Battlecat, Spice 1 and DJ Slip is amazing on every single song. The piano used in many tracks gives a very musical flava to many songs. Spice 1 again comes out with his brilliant lyrics about the kill-or-get-killed life in the East Bay area. His energretic delivery, filled with emotions of rage and no-fear, hit you in the face like Spice 1's fo'-fo'. If that's not enough teriffic guest appearences by E40, 2Pac, Method Man, G-Nut and the 187 Fac crew. Spice 1 comes dropping different styles of rapping, always beeing as hard as anyone can get in the rap game. His use of reggae adds a lot of originality to his songs and he remains pure 187. With lines like: "...and I'm back on the streets, With a dead mutha***a in the passenger seat"

Spice 1 shows the darkest side of life in the ghetto. And he tells it in the most direct way, never tryin' to smooth it out. I can't reccomend this album to any rap fan. If you are into very hardcore lyrics and love the west coast ol' gangsta s**t you should most deffinetly get this album which is Spice's best album- it shows him in the top of his skills and the production just stands out every single track out of the 15 on the album.

Like Method man says in the intro to "Hard 2 Kill":

"Yeah, play times over mutha*****az, Spice 1's defiantly in mutha****in' effect. You know what I'm saying? bringing it to all you b***h a** n***az, so raise up and recognize, and understand that this brother is hard to kill."

Spice 1 - AmeriKKKa'z nightmare, fo' real.

5.0 out of 5 stars Deserves more than 5 stars, April 7, 2005

Being from the UK, i can say for sure that Spice 1 may not fit in with the radio friendly, watered down commercialised diet of hip-hop that these shores have traditionally embraced. However, this is perhaps the greatest compliment anyone could pay Spice, as he's on a level well above the garbage MCs that sell units by the millions in music shops here. Amazon's uk site didn't stock Amerikkka's Nightmare so i had to order from the american site, and it's the best purchase i have made in a long while. Although Spice's later albums also find him lyrically on point as always, it is on Amerikkka's Nightmare where his trademark razor sharp and versatile delivery is most at home. Spice is in full effect over bangin' production from Blackjack, DJ Slip and DJ Battlecat, resulting in one of the greatest west coast hip hop albums i have ever heard...yes including The Chronic. In my opinion all 15 tracks are very good but my top three tracks from the album are #2 Face of a Desperate Man, #10 Bustas Can't See Me and #13 Give the "G" a Gat. I think it's about time people stop sleeping on the likes of Spice 1, MC Eiht, and other true innovators from the west coast who have maintained for years and never sold out for radio play.

5.0 out of 5 stars Encapsulating the True West Coast sound, December 28, 2004
By
This review is from: Amerikkka's Nightmare (Audio CD)
There are many listeners out there who would label this "generic" gangsta rap. There are many listeners, who would eat up any s**t that is considered "underground." There are many listeners who latch onto anything that contains jazz samples. Truth is when you look at it objectively, rappers, who embrace gangsta themes, almost equal in number to rappers, who embrace jazz themes. Then why Empakt do critics praise artists such as Run DMC, De La Soul, and ATCQ more than this type of rap? Now don't get it twisted. I like Run DMC and De La Soul; their stuff is continually fresh and at times funny. But the truth is any artist like Shyne who puts out an gangsta album is always criticized about being too gangsta or repetitive. This is true at times, but keep everything in mind. Don't denounce the genre. I've heard crap artists who were not mainstream and who did use jazz in their samples get great reviews only on the sample rather than their lyrical flow and lyrics. Heck Nas's street's disciple, quite possibly the best album this year has been labeled as "too indulgent" by AMG? So you are saying he should not put out 2 discs of quality material and only make one short cd. Then you all would probably pull a 360 and denounce him for not following through with all the hype. But whatever just check this cd out. Spice's flow is pretty ill. E-40, Pac, and Method man guest star. It's good.

this is easily one of the best rap cds of all time. it's amazing that spice 1 was never a rap superstar. i've bought this cd 5 times now over the years since it came out, and i can never get enough of tracks like strap on the side, and jealous got me strapped. there are many other good tracks too, but those two stand out as all time greats.
