Good alternative to a tree stand,

This is a good blind for hunting if you can't hunt in a tree stand or need to be closer to the ground in order to get a shot. It sets up easy and fast and blends in pretty well. Take-down can be a litle confusing and it usually takes me a couple of tries to get it to pack down correctly to fit in the backpack. The backpack is a good feature and makes it really easy to carry. One thing I did not like is the "shoot through" mesh. This is misleading because on the inside of the blind it clearly states that you should not shoot a firearm or mechanical broadhead through the mesh, so basically you can use a broadhead arrow. I don't use this blind for bow hunting, so that was a big disappointment. The mesh does work really well for concealment though and I am thinking about ordering the optional Total Scent Control for this blind. Amazon had the best price with shipping.

the "doghouse" blind by Ameristep, has plenty of room inside for the gun hunter, whether it be deer, turkey or whatever. Great for one, alittle bit tight for two adults, but doable. Opens very easily, however closing it to fit in the backpac it comes with is a bit difficult until you get the knack of it. The price through Amazon was the best part and with free shipping. It's definately worth checking out if in the market for a well made and functionable blind that should give several years of service if taken care of.

Ameristep 814 Tangle Camo Doghouse BlindI have three of these and set them up every deer season. They are excellent, easy to set up and take down.I like the tie downs on the windows so that on windy days you do not have to contend with the flaping of the windows.Whats most important is they do the job. I am 75 years old and about 5 years ago decided I had to give up the tree stand and went to this blind. I have been successful each year in getting at least one deer out of them. This past year I Bagged a nice 8 point buck. Can I say anything more. This product is quality and value.

I have hunted in this blind about a half dozen times so far and no major complaints. It does its job, the back pack is really nice and I have had success with white tail using it. Price was very fair. I am not super impressed with the quality of the materials but I am not dissatisfied either. I would buy it again.

I picked this up and was a bit uneasy about the camo pattern. Well it blends into the KY woods perfectly. We had deer within 10 yds of the blind and never knew we where there (it was a fawn so I didn't shoot but I could count the spots). I even nearly got a shot at a Turkey but he didn't get close enough, not because he saw us but he wandered away (not spooked). We had another Deer walk up on us about 15 yds and never saw or smelled us, he was too small to take. A storm blew in and with pouring down rain we stayed nice and dry.
Two full grown folks fit into this with no problem. We had big fold out chairs; I recommend getting smaller ones made for hunting. Two of us, bows and other gear fit with no problems. Plenty of room to move around to set up for a shot. I HIGHLY recommend this for anyone who wants to get close to their game.

This is a nice hunting blind to set up in your favorite spot. There is plenty of room to set up a collapsible chair inside and still maneuver a long rifle, crossbow or compound bow. The option to shoot through a small viewing hole or unzip a larger window is very convenient. Mine has been set up for almost a month in the same spot, it has survived several very windy days, 6 inches of snow and a light glaze of ice. My only annoyance is the zippers are a fine tooth design. The frozen precipitation seems to make them stick and they don't appear very durable, but so far none have broken. I would recommend this blind for a person who plans to hunt the same spot for several weeks at a time and wants to leave the blind and not take it down and put it up each day.

First off the directions for setting this up were the worst Ive seen in a while. Go to YouTube and put the name of this blind in the search and theres a few videos how to set-up and take this thing down. Easy enough. Secondly Im 6ft 4in and though I had to lean over some but there was plenty of room for me to sit in there with my guns a small cooler and a small chair. This thing will keep the wind/elements off of you while you hunt. But heed the part of the instructions where it says to spray it down with water repellant and seam sealer, only to get max use out of this blind. So Its a 5 of 5 for me. Size, build, materials and use were all great. THIS IS NOT A TENT, this is just a hunting item to break up movement and hide shape and shine from the critters. all at a low cost.

We bought this 2 months ago, and as you know with a blind, you keep it up during the hunting season. By the end of the season, there were holes on the top, the 2 strings that hold the poles on the top up broke, and the anchor loops broke. Should have held up more than 1 hunting season. Live & learn.

For about $60, this thing can't be beat. I will start by telling you the things about the blind I have NOT experienced: Lifespan and toughness (I have only used it a few weeks),and taking it down and putting it back in the bag (haven't tried). What I HAVE experienced with it: Hunting. Successful hunting. I have hunted out of this blind about 10 times in the last few weeks, and I really feel that for the money it is great. It was SUPER easy to set up, and the day I set it up, I had a very nice 8 point buck walk right by me. I'll get to the heartbreak of that story here in a sec... I like the way the blind is set up. You can open the windows in any direction, and can even have the zipper on the door so that you could see out of it too. It wouldn't be very feasable to shoot out the door, but you should be able to limit yourself to 3 directions anyway. The great thing about this blind is that animals have NO idea you're there. On several occasions I had one of my young daughters in the blind with me, neither of which are capable of being still or quiet, and we had deer and turkeys within 20 yards of us almost every time, and never spooked a thing. The purpose of the blind is to give you a little more comfort, being able to move, not where full camo if you don't want to, and if you have kids with you, let them color, read, whatever keeps them occupied until something shows up. This blind does that job very well. And again, it is cheap. I struggled between buying this one and a more expensive one, and am glad I got this one. The downside to this blind is that it's small. It is too small for 2 people if you are bowhunting. Even having a 5 year-old in the blind with me made drawing in both directions tricky. It's like this: If you are sitting in a chair, in a position to where you can shoot out both windows, there isn't a good spot to sit the other person. If you sit them to the side of your bow arm, you risk hitting their legs with your lower limb when you shoot. That and you are pointing a broadhead within a foot of their head, which is not an option in my opinion. Same thing with sitting them in front of you in the opposite corner, to your front and right. Sitting them between the two windows would be completely insane and dangerous, so the only real option is having them sit beside you, on the side of your drawing arm. The problem here is that you elbow them when you draw, or at least have to be very careful not to. This lead to me, the first time I tried to shoot out of the blind with my daughter in there, to get on my knees in the middle of the blind. The 8-point I mentioned earlier came by us just perfect at about 20 yards, I drew, released, and missed the whole deer by about a foot. This was very surprising to me, as I haven't missed an entire deer in probably two decades. Baffled, I sat there and watched the deer run off to about 50 yards and stand there and snort and stomp his foot at us. I couldn't figure out how I had missed for the life of me. I looked at my bow, looked where the deer had been standing, and finally looked at the bottom of the window I had shot out of. The window was cut from the broadhead, where I hadn't cleared it with the arrow when I shot. I didn't have the window unzipped all the way, trying to give us more cover, and had not given myself a big enough margin of error when shooting and clearing the edges of the windows. I had drawn the bow back when we first got there, had (barely) enough room to draw and good sight pictures, but had never thought to look where my arrow was pointed. After a lifetime of hunting out of tree stands and from the ground without a blind, you don't think about having to make sure your arrow clears things an inch in front of it when you're drawn back. Anyway, I felt super dumb for having shot my blind instead of the deer, but at least I knew why. I blame this solely on myself, and was not the fault of the blind at all. I have since unzipped the windows farther and have not had any problem clearing them at all when shooting two turkeys. The blind is great, perfect if you are bowhunting by yourself, or I imagine gun hunting with another person. If you only had to aim a gun and pull the trigger instead of trying to draw and aim a bow, the other person in the blind wouldn't be nearly as much of an inconvenience. So again, overall I really like this blind and would definitely by another one if I needed it. Just make sure you don't shoot the window...

I bought this blind for my husband and he loves it. It is very large for one person, plenty of gun room for sure. Also, many people found it hard to break down but my husband didn't have a problem with that.
