Ameristep One Man Ice Shelter

I just received my new shelter and haven't set it up on ice yet. We had high wind warnings here with gust up to 45 MPH, so I set my new shelter up in an open lot. I was very pleased with how well it handled in the wind and with how well it handled the wind. It seems to be well constructed and roomy enought for someone of my size (6'4" @ 225lbs.) I can't wait to get it out on the ice.

This ice shelter is very poorly constructed. I bought one late last winter and asked for it to be replaced due to poor quality construction. When I called the company I was told the replacement would be of better quality but it was not. The material is too thin and has many holes in it where the material was not woven correctly. Some of them were half the size of a dime. The windows are covered with plastic that has a black substance all over them. I was told this was probably the fire retardant coating that is applied to the whole shelter after the shelter is manufactured. There are hundreds of needle holes where the zippers are installed. Yesterday I spent two hours repairing the front corners of the chair that were ripping. Without the repair it would be a matter of time before the chair ripped and could not be repaired. I have only used this shelter six times. I suggest you save your money and get a quality shelter perhaps a Clam or Eskimo or a shelter of similar quality. This would be an OK shelter if the quality was greatly improved.

Pretty well made easy to open,needs two guys to close it and put it back in the bag.Will let you know after I test it.
