Two of the pieces were cracked and one was scratched at the corner.

The instructions are incomplete in that the sections have no 1-2-3 which-to-fit-first steps, just a single page with arrows.

The price was definitely right, and shipping was quick, but the unit is constructed of pressboard with a veneer. Several of the corners were noticeably chipped and the finish was not good - too many gaps. some trim pieces on the doors were not glued well. the unit went together fairly easily in a couple hours, but with so many gashes, nicks, and gaps it has to go back to the manufacturer (which has only an email address for correspondence - no phone number to be found. still waiting for a reply...

This ia a nice sized product with a decent amount of storage space, and it looks nice. The size is good. The main negatives are that it came with several scratches, takes over an hour to put together and, most importantly, if it gets any water on it that doesn't get wiped off very quickly, there will be a slight amount of bubble damage at the surface (not a great quality for an aquarium stand). However, if aware of this and careful to clean up quickly, it isn't a major problem, and the scratches were easily covered with a mood marker pen.

Overall, it is a good product for the money.

The pieces where chipped when i opened the box, and as i put it together, i found out the door panels were merely glued on and they popped right off! However, customer service must realize how crappy their product is because they were very accommodating with sending out replacements. It does look nice from afar, and just like in the picture, but i really am not joking when i say that it is made of material just slightly more sturdy than cardboard. I would NOT recommend it at all. And i certainly wouldn't pay more than $50 as it does technically hold up an aquarium.

Update: 11/15/11 So i never actually put on the new doors they shipped to me figuring i ultimately didn't care how crappy it looked. Now i am trying to sell my aquarium and all this accessories so i went to open up the box with the new doors and to my dismay the new doors are in the exact same condition as my original! The little vertical panels are practically falling off with the glue plainly visible! This company obviously takes produces crap.

I should have read the reviews before buying this product! Two of the pieces were cracked and one was scratched at the corner. We had to put it together in spite of the damage so that we could put the fish in the fish tank that we had just purchased, and it took over an hour to assemble. The top has a slightly bubbled surface, which is unattractive. We will have to mask the damage with putty and paint so that it is presentable. Should be sold for half the cost on this site for the quality.

This is an extremely cheap kit, poorly designed, light-duty material, parts do not fit into pre-drilled holes, and the company does not stand behind their products. I wasted my money on this model. Both side shelf units do not fit into the top piece and center piece, both bottom sections broke out upon final assembly, the right side unit does not fit into the top, the guiding pins do not close tightly, and the left door hinge was drilled improperly so that one mounting screw stripped out on assembly. The parts are labeled poorly with 1/2 of the sections containing no part numbers. The instructions are incomplete in that the sections have no 1-2-3 which-to-fit-first steps, just a single page with arrows. Ameriwood will not handle any claims, and makes customers return their defective products back to the sellers. Stay as far away from this garbage as you possibly can! This is the worst kit you will ever try to assemble! Sellers - return this junk to Ameriwood and get credits due. 55 Gallon Aquarium Stand by Ameriwood Furniture

Like some of the other reviewers, I was disappointed when I first received it as discovered that the components are not solid-wood. However, I have to give it credit and say that it's been sturdy for 5 years going. Because I am using it for an odd-sized 50Gal acrylic, there is some pressure on the top plate that rubs on the doors, but I believe that's my fault. If you get water on it, wipe it off soon as it can soak into the corners and swell the board. Complaints aside, the design is very convenient (I can hide a whole Co2 system w/ large Co2 tank, timers, UPS battery backup, various plant foods, brushes, nets, etc, and still have tons of space) and it's really nice looking. I'm about to move and will be getting a stand that fits my odd-sized tank better, but I plan on using this stand as an entertainment center for a TV and games. It looks that good still.

Not only is this "Ameriwood" product not wood-it's not even wood veneer. Apart from the cabinet doors, it's chips glued together and covered with chintzy looking plastic false wood-grain. The "wood" in the name must refer to "wood" chips. It arrived with even the plastic coating chipped, exposing the chip interior of the boards. I ordered it from Stacks and Stacks, who ignored my two emails requesting a return. Sending out wood-chip boards (which by nature deteriorate when wet, ask any carpenter) for an aquarium stand (which, by the nature of its function, increases the likelihood of the stand getting at least somewhat damp eventually, during cleanings), especially when the water-repelling outer covering is chipped, is not only not aesthetic but dangerous to people and property. I advise against this purchase in general, and very strongly against this purchase from Stacks and Stacks. If you have your heart set on this product, please take my advise and buy it from a vendor other than Stacks and Stacks, since other customers have said that although the stand itself arrived in poor quality, other vendors were more accommodating regarding their grievances.
