I do A LOT of gardening, and this little guy is by far the most used and most useful tool in my shed. It is very well-made: the handle is comfortable and brightly colored so it's easy to spot, the blade will not bend and you'll be hard-pressed to get it to rust, and it does the job of several other tools, eliminating the need to cart around a bunch of other gadgets. It has a sharp serrated edge that's great for cutting open bags of soil and for slicing through the roots of root-bound plants before transplanting them (it's very important to cut through those roots so that they don't keep growing around and around in a circle -- your plants won't thrive if that's the case). The forked tip is good for weeding out tap roots like those on dandelions. And it has 1" markings along the length of it to help with planting depth and spacing. The only thing that bugs me is that it's 11" long, instead of 12". So if I have plants that need to be more than 11" apart, I have to do math. Having to do math while gardening counteracts the therapeutic effects of gardening, and that is not cool, people.

We recently moved, and this tool somehow got lost in the move, so I tried to make do without it. It got to be pretty irritating to have to use one tool for digging, another tool for measuring, and 3rd tool for cutting roots, so I ran over to Home Depot to pick up a replacement. And yes, as others have mentioned, get yours there. Instant gratification for 10 bucks.

This tool is all you need as a Gardner, I'm lost without it! Highly recommended . The serrated edge perfect for cutting thru sod and plastic as well. But use caution, it is very sharp.

This tool is fantastic. It is very sturdy and easy to use. The notched end cuts roots easily, and the serrated edge is great for cutting through grass cover. Great product.

My husband picked one of these up for me ... a little treat for his gardening wife. I LOVE this trowel. It is excellent for transplanting when you need to rough up the roots on a potted transplant.

This is more than I expected after reading some of the reviews. I use it for metal detecting. it cuts roots pretty well. Cuts a nice neat hole when you get the object pinpointed.
