This makes so much sense! My deck no longer has hose snaking all over it, and the can is much lighter than a standard watering can. I do prefer to pull the entire 40 feet of hose out and lock it in place to do the plants in the front of the house (the spigot is in the back) as there is some tension on the hose otherwise, but reeling it back in is a snap - just move the lever to unlock. Well made also, and nothing to rust. As it is sealed, no leaves or sprouts get inside to hinder the water spray. Can't say enough good things about this product.

I picked this up at a local store for a better price as compared to Amazon several months ago. It is very convenient and has shown no sign of problems. The hose is very lightweight but never kinks and winds back smoothly.

Small but mighty. Great to water lawn, flowers and pots with ease. So much easier than dragging out the hose!

Until the internal leaking it worked great. But just after it was too late to return it, it leaked all night on my deck. A waste of water, money and time. I did not notice the lead warning either. Funny, Amazon did not post that warning on the webpage.

I really liked this product, which I bought to replace a 25 foot coiled hose. It rewinds the hose smoothly. A much better idea than the coil, which tends to become tangled. However, it started to leak inside, rendering it useless. I tried to disassemble it by unscrewing the screws and removing some clips. While it partial separated there is clearly something I cannot see still preventing me getting inside. Having read the warning about lead I am now inclined to dump it and have already got a new coiled hose. I still have the box and had not noticed the warning. It is of course made in China. It should not be hard to make not using lead.

First off, I have EIGHT of these, as I have a large yard with many gardens, and they all work GREAT. I love them, and they are saving me tons of time, and saving my back from pain.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM. THEY ARE NO MORE TOXIC THAN ANY OTHER ITEM THAT CONTAINS BRASS.

Secondly, there is a review here that states that it is a toxic product. This was a very irresponsible comment to make and if the reviewer had done a little research (as in googling "brass and lead") she would not have done so.

The reviewer states that this product is toxic because it contains some lead. She was upset because she let her baby drink from the hose.

This is what I wrote as a comment to her alarmist review:

"This product contain brass fittings. It is NORMAL for brass to contain a percentage of lead (Wiki states: "To enhance the machinability of brass, lead is often added in concentrations of around 2%.")

Every hose made with a brass fitting contains lead. I believe CA law requires such warnings on labels these days. And rather than make separate CA packaging, manufacturers will put the same warning on all of them.

Furthermore, it is common knowledge that you should NEVER let anyone drink out of ANY hose. They are NOT meant for potable (that means drinkable) water. The materials that the hoses themselves are made out of are the issue."

My advice, BUY this product. It is fantastic and will save your back and your time. My one regret is that I didn't get them last year when I saw them the first time!

I was initially in love with this product, fully praising its innovative, convenient design, just as many others have in their reviews. Until -- I discovered only this morning the fine print on -- the bottom of the side of the package -- that states that the product contains LEAD and you should not drink from it or place it in your mouth or place your hands in your mouth after using it.

While I never planned to do any of the above, I have certainly given my organic vegetable garden (the one that feeds my family, including my 6 month old baby & three year old) plenty of drinks from it and have never considered that I was dealing with hazardous material and needed to do a full washdown immediately after using the product.

Needless to say, I am thoroughly shocked and disgusted -- first off, that a product that is going directly into soil contains lead and, even moreso, that it does not very clearly advertise that it should NEVER be used on a garden that is intended for human consumption. The fine print on the side of the box is completely inadequate as an appropriate warning & tantamount to stating in fine print that 'This product will kill you' -- something worthy of caplocks rather than fine print. I have reported this product to my local hardware store where this was purchased & they are launching an investigation which I hope will result in this product being pulled off all of their shelves.

Ames, the company that makes this product, should be deeply ashamed of itself for the harm it is prepared to do to people to turn a profit off its toxic products.

I love this garden hose. It's light weight, stores easily, automatically pulls the hose back, and you can lock it and leave the water on when you have to give a plant extra water but don't feel like standing over it. Also, the nozzle turns to change the spray pattern of the water, no need to buy an extra nozzle. The only drawbacks are that the gauge of the hose is small and you can't add another nozzle if you wanted and I wish it were slightly bigger to accommodate at 65ft hose. Other than that, it's sturdy and has been making watering the new saplings and shrubs a breeze :)

I purchased this to water multiple potted plants in a large courtyard. It takes me half the time than when I used a hose and hose box with far less aggravation. In addition, I purchased it from Home Depot for under $10. I unreel the hose to where it can reach the furthest pot and lock it so it doesn't retract, otherwise you can feel some tension. When I have finished watering, I unlock the hose and it retracts like magic. It looks good too. The best deal I have found in a long time.

If you are looking to buy this item buy it from Home Depot - I just paid $10 not $40. This is perfect for watering plants, its light and easy to pull. However, it is not a full size hose so it restricts the water flow - you won't be able to use it to hose off anything on the ground/deck but if you're looking for an easy way to water your potted plants daily this is it.
