5.0 out of 5 stars Very Happy with it
After 3-4 years of reliable use, it started to leak from the mechanism inside after being left out for the winter. I went to the website, found the replacement part I needed and they're sending it to me completely free. The plastic parts have all held up well. I've had the Suncast model, and it didn't last even a season. I don't think you can expect more than a...

1.0 out of 5 stars Look Elsewhere - poor design and flimsy
This item is made of a thin, cheap plastic that breaks easily. The design itself is too narrow, and combined with the thin plastic the entire assembly wobbles furiously when you wind the hose. It frequently tips over when unwinding. I've broken the handle twice: once normally winding the hose and the other time when the unit tipped over. I got just a couple of months of use out of the original and the replacement unit. I recommend you save yourself the disappointment buy something more substantial.

1.0 out of 5 stars Yep, it's a piece of junk, November 27, 2007
This review is from: Ames True Temper ReelEasy Assembled Hose Reel Cart 2385575 (Lawn & Patio)
I concur with the other reviewers...this really is junk. It leaked like CRAZY (as in water flowing all the way to my neighbor's driveway within the first 10 minutes) and no amount of tightening could stop it. You could never really use the "handy" reel-it-in feature, since the whole contraption is too flimsy to support its own weight. Then it broke one day, just from falling over while I was unreeling hose...the whole handle just broke right off. Other parts soon followed.

I tried to use it until the end of the season, but the leaking progressed to the point where I finally just put it out on the curb the night before trash day. Not surprisingly, nobody garbage-picked it... ;-)

Soooooo not worth any money saved! Get a better model.

1.0 out of 5 stars Stay away from this product, July 19, 2007
This review is from: Ames True Temper ReelEasy Assembled Hose Reel Cart 2385575 (Lawn & Patio)
I bought this item from HomeDepot. It started leaking in the first season itself. I did a mistake of calling Ames about the leak, I should have returned to the store.

Ames sent me parts, I replaced according to instructions. Leaking stopped then started again after a month. Called Ames again, they sent me parts again. This time leaking did not stop. Called Ames again, they sent me another part, replaced that too. Leaking does not stop. Finally called Ames for replacement, did not wanted to continue replacing parts. They refused to send replacement cart, they said they can only send parts and it should stop the leak.

I gave up, garbaged this hose reel. Waste of my money and time. Shopping around to buy new one. Trying to decide between RapidReel Wall Reel and ReelSmart Outdoor Sink Station with Auto-Rewind.

I agree with all the other reviews here. The small device which keeps the handle secured into the upright position snapped when I was pushing my reel from over a distance of about 10 feet on smooth concrete. Without a lot of homemade repairs, I don't know how I would get this thing easily moved from place to place. Take everyone's advice - don't buy this reel. It's nothing but cheap junk.

I concur with the other reviews. I have the product and it has leaked from the start. I tried taking it apart and getting to the source of the leak to no avail. Reeling the hose is handy, but if you want something that does not leak, look elsewhere.

1.0 out of 5 stars Ames hose reel products leak, October 18, 2007

Have tried several Ames hose reel products. They all leak. Ames will send replacement parts, but those leak. One product had wrong parts in kit and I couldn't finish assembly (Ames sent the correct part after a couple of weeks). Also, the plastic retainers holding the handle in the upright position break off, leaving the cart very difficult to move.
Gave it one star because no stars was not an option...

I cannot understand all the negative reviews of this unit. I replaced my existing hose reel cart, which is this same unit as thie one, the Ames 2385575. The unit I had lasted more than 10 years. It obtained a very small pin hole leak in the plastic piece that connects the end of the house to the reel. I could have put duct tape over it and kept the unit, but decided to get a new one since it was "sunbeaten" after so many years. I noticed this new unit was easier to reel, probably because I had not lubricated my old one; I will be sure to maintain the new one. You need to hold the top handle while you reel the hose, just to keep it steady--not a big deal! It's plastic just like other manufacturers, but seems just as well made. I did replace the washer at the end of the hose that hooks up to the faucet shut off valve, as it did slightly drip, even with firm tightening. A thicker washer took care of that. It seems like anything you look at on line, there is always some negative reviews. I don't believe this product will be a disappointment to me, as I already had the same unit for over 10 years and there was no change in the product. The quality and thickness of the plastic parts is the same.

1.0 out of 5 stars I don't recommend. Falls apart easily, September 25, 2008

This review is from: Ames True Temper ReelEasy Assembled Hose Reel Cart 2385575 (Lawn & Patio)
I bought this and shortly after a month it started falling apart at the seams, quite literally. Basically anywhere that was a water pressure/leak point it began leaking or it stressed the weak plastic into cracking.

I'd recommend looking for a different product.

The quality on this was not what I expected for the money.
It works but I just thought it would have been made better
