I bought this maul for my husband to split firewood for this heating season. It is great. I wouldn't say he now loves splitting wood, but it makes it a lot easier.

Really eases the job at hand. I don't have to roll out the power splitter for moderate sized jobs. The handle is the right length and is well constructed. Backed up by a decent warranty. Handle should hold up a long time. Worth the few extra bucks that it costs.

after shopping online for different splitters, i decided on this one; since i never split wood before, it was interesting to learn the difference between and axe (chopper) and a splitting maul; i wanted a splitter that had enough weight but light enough that i could wield; i wanted a head that splits on one side and blunt on the other in case i needed to use a wedge; the handle is long enough for leverage and safe enough from having a "swing-and-a-miss" injury; the handle is also pretty durable; price was right; highly recommended; 4/5 because of my inexperience; just what i was looking for

Great splitting maul.one swing and it's split!!! I have hit the handle several times by accident against the wood and shows no signs of wear.very rugged.these are much better then the ones at wal-mart, they only get the cheap made ones from china.

A very fine maul. I am sure it will give years of keeping me in shape. I have only split about a cord of Eucalyptus so far. Tough wood requires a tough wood splitter.

When I received this I was extremely disappointed. Since the merger,looks like quality control has gone to hell. I've bought in the past Ames and true temper both were excellent but that was 25 years ago. The cutting face of the mall was totally jagged with slag. Had never been ground off or sharpened. It's a good thing I own lots of equipment and have the knowledge to use it. Got out the Mikita 4.50in grinder and proceeded to correct the problem.

Swinging an 8-pound maul is quite a workout, but the results are great. I got this axe just in time as my heat went out Friday night and I was forced to split wood from a maple tree that fell last year to keep my house warm all weekend. The maul was a life-saver, splitting all but the largest sections of trunk on the first swing. The fiberglass handle seems to help soften the vibrations on the occasional missed chop, and it gives you plenty of leverage. Just be sure to wear eye protection if you're cutting branches as the force created by this maul can really send them flying.

For years I've been splitting firewood with a wooden handled 6 lb. splitting maul. Some tougher, crotchier pieces might have taken 4-5 whacks to split the wood with my old splitter. With the new 8 lb. splitter.......the job is so much easier, and reduces the number of whacks, usually to one time. The FiberPro handle.....I foresee lasting a lifetime, whereas my wooden handled splitter is splintering, and constantly being wrapped with duct tape to make it last.

I just received this today. After work, I took it out to try and split up the remaining hard, gnarly maple logs that I could not split with my 36" regular axe. I was thinking of getting a hand operated hydraulic splitter, but didn't think I had enough wood for that to be worth while. So I ordered this splitting maul instead. It is inexpensive and shipped fast. This maul split up the gnarly maple logs like a nut cracker! The handle is great, it is the perfect length and the perfect weight. It does get tiring after a while of use. As one reviewer stated, there is a little bit of flashing on the cutting edge, but it really does not need to be filed down. It is not an issue. The reverse flat side is nicely polished, revealing shiny tempered steel. This is a bargain for $27.97/free shipping.

Right length and weight for big guy. Splits aged wood with single swing. Fibeglass handle much better than wood. Worth the extra money.
