5.0 out of 5 stars Not cheap, but VERY much worth the investment
It seems that I could rarely get more than about ten uses of a new wheelbarrow tire before a heavy load over hard, uneven surfaces would cause a flat in a supposedly "flat-proof" tire. And then I'd have to go back to the hardware store, invest another $10 or so and put a new tire on, inflate it, try to balance it and basically waste another ten bucks and...

1.0 out of 5 stars This is not a universal tire - didn't fit my wheelbarrow
I was unable to try out this wheelbarrow tire because it didn't fit my Ames wheelbarrow, although the product description said it was universal. Later it occured to me that the description didn't include any diameter measurement (only the hub measurement), so I checked the tire and found that it is 15" across. My old tire measured 13", so there's the problem. If the...

This review is from: Ames True Temper 8-Inch Flat Free Solid Wheelbarrow Tire FFTCC (Lawn & Patio)
It seems that I could rarely get more than about ten uses of a new wheelbarrow tire before a heavy load over hard, uneven surfaces would cause a flat in a supposedly "flat-proof" tire. And then I'd have to go back to the hardware store, invest another $10 or so and put a new tire on, inflate it, try to balance it and basically waste another ten bucks and another hour of my time as it would pop and go flat again shortly.

Getting tired of this, I decided to ante up and give this one a try -- and I'm thrilled! It feels like an air-filled tire; the solid material is a bit like soft, air-filled rubber which acts as a shock absorber over bumps and uneven surfaces. But when you bounce this one around or roll it over hard and sharp surfaces with hundred-pound loads, it just keeps rolling and coming back for more!

I only wish I bought this when I first assembled my wheelbarrow. When adding up the cost of frequently popping and flattening air-filled tires, in the long run this is a very good investment for anyone who frequently uses a wheelbarrow with heavy loads. It WILL pay for itself over time, and plus you don't have to hassle with replacing a tire as a regular ritual.

Do yourself a favor -- plunk down the sixty bucks and invest the money in a solid, flat-proof tire such as this one. You will be pleased when it's still going strong months, even years later. The reduction in flat-induced aggravation alone is worth this price several times over. You certainly get what you pay for.

5.0 out of 5 stars No more flats, what a savior, June 2, 2003

This product will save me 2 fold when it comes to not having to take time out of my busy schedule to replace the tire. This tire lasts longer then the wheelbarrow and I will keep it when I junk the rest of the wheelbarrow. Couldn't be happier with this product.

Got one of these - it's a True Temper, pretty sure it was the exact same one - for much less at Home Depot. It's nice. It doesn't have the jaunty feel of a fully pumped rubber tire, instead feeling like a slightly flat version of it. But... if you have a tire that you get sick and tired of filling all the time, then this is your solution. As someone else said, you can buy a pretty nice wheelbarrow with a poly container, metal handles, and a flat-free tire on it for $60-$70. Think it was at Lowes that I saw it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Rip-off, April 9, 2006
This review is from: Ames True Temper 8-Inch Flat Free Solid Wheelbarrow Tire FFTCC (Lawn & Patio)
At Home Depot or Menard(Chicagoland), the whole wheelbarrow with flat free tire can be purchased at $60 to $70, so, this is absolutely waste of money.

1.0 out of 5 stars Misleading description--not universal at all, June 4, 2006
This review is from: Ames True Temper 8-Inch Flat Free Solid Wheelbarrow Tire FFTCC (Lawn & Patio)
The description says it has a 6" hub which is universal for all wheelbarrows. Wrong. I got one and it will not fit my wheelbarrow as my wheelbarrow will only take a 3" hub. This expensive waste of money will only fit at wheelbarrow with a 6" hub. Thus it is not even remotely "universal."

4.0 out of 5 stars Wheelbarrow, not Cart, March 25, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Ames True Temper 8-Inch Flat Free Solid Wheelbarrow Tire FFTCC (Lawn & Patio)
The essential thing to note with this product is that it is for a traditional wheelbarrow which has a single wheel. This means that the hub on this wheel significantly extends out from the plane of the wheel.

This hub extension (which is not detectable in the 5/8 on product shot, but which would be in a more useful front/profile view) means that the wheel/tire is not usable on wheelbarrow/carts having two side mounted wheels.

I bought three. One for a wheelbarrow and two for a cart with the same size wheels, and was disappointed when they could not be used on the latter.

Have used solid tires for many years on wheelbarrows. They are worth the extra cost as they will last longer than the wheelbarrow and never go flat.

Four, vs five, stars are for the whole 'product experience' (the tire wheel combo itself is a FIVE) as, from the information given, it was not clear that they could only be used on wheelbarrows, and they are more costly here than one would expect.

1.0 out of 5 stars Didn't fit my wheelbarrow, July 13, 2009

The tire diameter is too large, my axle diameter is larger than bearings and the hub is way too long. 0 for 3. NOT UNIVERSAL!

After only 18 months, my tire came off the wheel, spilling sealant all over. Stores don't sell the tire separately. After all, it's GUARANTEED.
