They couldn't be more different and the same at once. Why is that? Because they all came from the same mold: that of Aida Diestro's, an unsung talent in Cuban music. However, each of them has her own personality.
This cd brings forth some of the best moments of Elena, Omara and Moraima, and one unexpected rarity from the first.
For starters, the big opener is the unparalleled 'Ya no te acuerdas de mi', when the Cuarteto de Aida was in its prime. They close with 'Amigas', a song written for them, in which their voices blend magically again to reminisce how life and love has treated them. And when we mention voices, we must emphasize the way Elena masters her instrument. Yes, that's how it is, an instrument, perhaps a viola or a cello. Phenomenal!
An enticing attraction is that the cd contains an exclusive track: 'Dejame sola', from an LP that Elena recorded with the great Meme Solis back in the late 50's or early 60's, an album wrapped in the mist of legend and a missing link for Elena's career since it has never been edited again in any kind of format.
Given that Elena and Moraima have passed away, this cd is important as a wonderful showcase of their musicianship and interpretative powers.
I, for one, bought four of this cd: one for me and three for friends who live Europe and South America.
