I love this flat iron. I am African-American and I have a short bob and it works great for me. I might even purchase the 1" version for tight curls. This iron makes my hair feel soft and look very shiny. It doesn't have to be turned up really high to stratighten my hair and it's not damaging my hair either. I love it so much, I bought one for my daughter as well.

I have used a Paul Mitchell flat iron at the gym where I work and it straightens my hair MUCH better than this one. Even though this one supposedly gets 400 degrees, it's not nearly as hot as the Paul Mitchell one. It causes me to have a bunch of fly away hairs and I don't have that problem with PM. I have very course hair that is already straight, but my gray hair is very unruly. I find this iron pulls my hair too, unless I grab a very small section of hair. With PM I can grab a big chunk and iron it without any pulling at all. PM also has temperature settings if you don't want it quite that hot. I need a very hot iron and this one is not!
Save your $$ and get Paul Mitchell. It's more $, but worth it! You get what you pay for.

This flat iron is awesome. It leaves my hair so smooth and shining. It is almost unbelievable, my hair is coarse and this flat iron makes it feel extremely soft.

i am an ebony :) lady with all natural, thick, curly 3c hair. i used my amika iron on one side of my hair and my solia on the other side for comparison, then asked my husband which side was better (see my youtube review). He liked the amika side, but thought both sides were good. The amika side was very smooth and had lots of body- I really liked the feel of it, very smooth, silky and full of body. The plates make the difference in that it is 100% ceramic plates and not coated and is not infused with anything else. It's gets hot and has even temperature distribution with fast recovery. The plates glide smooth and I didn't notice snagging of my hair except when I had too much in the plates. My hair was straigntened using two passes which is a big plus because that's my magic number. The cord is good and long and did not tangle. I have used it a total of 3 times thus far and I am well pleased. One of the main things I look for is that the iron causes no heat damage because I like to alternate wearing my hair between naturally curly and straight (be sure to use a good heat protectant with any flat iron). I am a self proclaimed product junkie and have many flat irons, but rate this one in my Top 2. The only negative is that the temp is in celcius so I had to look it up in farenheit so that i wouldn't go too high. I am very pleased with this product and will recommend it to anyone looking for a good quality flat iron especially naturals or anyone with thick hard to straighten hair.

My daughter and I absolutely LOVE!! this product. It truly lives up to it's claim of giving you the salon look without going to the salon! It was a perfect additon for us because we mostly wash and style our own hair. My daughter was sooo pleased with the product she wants to wear her hair down more! I would recommend it especially for the price!

I am still debating if this is better than my chi flat iron. The only thing that worries me is that the light goes from green to red (back & forth) while I am using it. I don't understand why it does not just stay on green. I don't see any difference on the plates as I don't see where they actually move. My hair does stay soft and the straightening seems to last till the next day. However, my chi does a pretty good job as well. It does seem to create a bit of frizz though and that may be the difference. Hopefully, I have an originial since I did not buy it from the company. We shall see but for the price i am happy. So far so good. I would recommend giving it a try as it works pretty well for my thick hair.

The hot iron that I had before this one didn't have a temperature control on
it and it got VERY HOT! I always worry about damaging my hair with that kind
of extreme heat. When shopping for a new one, that was one of the first things that I looked for. I do like that I can adjust the temperature now on my Amika!

The one thing I don't like about this flat iron compared to the one that I had before, it that the outside of the iron around the heat plates also get very hot.
One of the first times I used it I burned the back of my neck as I was using it on my shorter hair in that area. OUCH!! I was surprised that the outside was that hot. Be careful!

I bougt this flat iron for my dougter after spending money in many other types and brands This is it.

This flat iron works pretty well for myself. As for my daughter she is really thick and curly hair so this iron doesn't straighten it as well as I anticipated even on the highest setting. B

The amika flat iron works surprisingly well. I am a black person and have very think hair and it got it pretty straight. It heats up quickly just as advertised and the little clips it comes with are really handy when trying to section off your hair. I will probably buy the carrying case I that had come with it.
