USEFUL BUT INCOMPLETE,
By
This review is from: Amino Revolution (Paperback)
A very good manual on how to use amino acid supplements and their co-factors for achieving wellness and combating aging. All the important areas are covered, like dosage, combinations, the exact vitamins and minerals to take at the same time, as well as foods that contain aminos. The description of the metabolic pathways and how amino acids work are extremely interesting. Areas where amino acids can help are discussed under stress, anxiety, depression, immunity, cancer, heart disease, allergies, digestion, herpes, alcohol, smoking and looking and feeling young. Perhaps the book is a bit outdated, since there is no mention of the wonderful amino NAC (N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine) that protects the lungs and mucous membranes and is especially recommended for smokers. The lack of general index and an index to conditions treatable by aminos is a bit of a drawback as this book could be a handy reference work. But four stars overall for an interesting and illuminating text providing much needed information to those who want to take responsibility for their own health.

Must Read Book for everyone.,

The Amino Revolution book will dramatically improve your health and well being if studied carefully and followed. Amino acid therapy is for everyone, not just athletes and body builders. Amino acids are food, not drugs, that cross the intestinal boundary quickly when taken as "free-form predigested" supplements. You can finally find the lasting cure for obesity, anorexia, bulimia, alcoholism, smoking, immune system deficiencies, yeast overgrowth, heart disease, cancer, depression, anxiety, craving, addictions and mood swings. You can energize your sex life and become healthy and happy. Another good book on this topic is The Diet Cure by Julia Ross, M.A. Amino acid therapy is great when used in combination with the Atkins' diet. Read The Atkins' New Diet Revolution and Protein Power for diet programs that work. The Amino Revolution supports the low-carbohydrate diet for optimum health and happiness.

Illustrates the metabolic pathway and how aminos work.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Amino Revolution (Paperback)
I purchased this book a number of years ago and keep returning to it as a referance and for advice. It has illustrated the combinations of certain aminos for treatment of particular ailments. The introduction of each amino acid and subsequent discussion on combinations shows action of metabolic imbalances and how combinations will help heal every illness. He also suggests specific vitamins and minerals with each amino acid combination to assist the complete metabolism of each formula.

I am just going to cut right to the chase, not bore you with whether or not this is the best book out there, or if it needs updating - this program cured my alllergies! I was on three different allergy meds, and taking weekly injections. Within a month of taking amino acids, I am allergy free. I also have fibromyalgia, and am starting to notice a reduction in symptoms and flare-ups. If you don't mind swallowing quite a few pills to feel better, try this. Robert Erdmann, THANK YOU!!!!!

Good but not great...,
By Paul (New Jersey) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Amino Revolution (Paperback)
This book gives a good yet somewhat simplistic overview of using amino acids to improve your health. What you won't get is an in-depth technical discussion of each of the individual amino acids. What you will get are some useful recommendations for which amino to take for certain conditions (ie. stress, depression, allergies, weight loss, etc.) I like the fact that the author tells us which aminos to take together and with which vitamin/mineral cofactors. Combining this book with "Amino Acids In Therapy" by Leon Chaitow, D.O. would be a pretty good way to start learning about the potential health benefits of proper amino acid supplementation. Unfortunately, both of these books are getting a little long in the tooth. A lot has been discovered since they were written over 15 years ago. I'm still waiting for the definitive amino acid book.

Great book!! Recommend to everyone, especially athletes,
By A Customer
This review is from: Amino Revolution (Paperback)
I read this book, and have been using it to improve my health. I have been through many kinds of health books and am involved and aware about what foods I eat and how they affect me. I found this book to provide the missing link between the detox programs I was using in the past to improve my liver function, and ergogenic aids I use when competing as an athlete. Like most athletes I have an interest in finding books which target a specific use. This book shows what things to do for different conditions, including anxiety, stress, and alcoholism, as well. I have experienced an improvement in my life as a result of using the knowledge in Dr. Erdmann's book. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in improving their health and wellness.

It needs updating since it was published in 1989 but a great overview of Amino Acids. While I was researching sulfur pathways in regards to my son, this book led me to some help for my husband! This book is more about certain diseases/disorders/issues than I was looking for because I was researching GSH synthesis but it helped me understand more about the interaction between all the AAs. It's time for an update!

Hope you can swallow a ton of pills,
By Shar (Pittsburgh, PA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Amino Revolution (Paperback)
I bought this book hoping that I could find some answers to my health problems, after trying almost everything else I could think of. I wish the author would have given a bit more instruction and some brand names of the amino acids, so I could know which ones were "authentic" free form, but I guess since the book is so old, those things are probably subject to change by now. I find that after reading the book, I needed to order the entire spectrum of them! After spending over a hundred bucks and gulping down a dozen plus pills three times a day for a month now, I can honestly say I don't feel a dang bit different. But that's not the author's fault, I guess.

This book describes the types of illnesses that are the result of metabolic imbalances that can be rectified or improved with amino acid supplements. Unfortunately the author does not suggest how much or how often such supplements should be taken. Other topics/features I had hoped to find in this book include more discussion on the non-essential amino acids and an index.
Amino acids can definitely help one improve their health. However I recommend you continue looking for alternative books.
