Packaging is excellent.

The stand was broken, the hole that the screw was to fit in, was broken and the screw would not hold the two pieces of the stand together.

Technically this is a true quartz crystal ball and not one made of resin, ordinary glass, or leaded glass. As the description says, it is made of "reconstituted quartz." What does this mean? Words describing the many different forms of glass and crystal are largely imprecise and loaded with confusion. Regular glass is SiO2: sodium oxide (soda) and calcium oxide (lime), the stuff most ordinary windows and dinnerware have always been made from since before Roman times. Fused quartz is also SiO2 but in a purer form. Thus, they can be thought of as two different forms of glass but the light transmission of fused quartz is far superior. Fused quartz and fused silica have nearly identical physical properties, with fused (reconstituted) quartz being a little harder and more stabile. Fusing quartzite (naturally occurring quartz crystals or quartz sand) causes it to lose its crystalline structure.

Here is a summary of comments found elsewhere on the net:

" 'Real' crystal balls can be made of different kinds of crystals or minerals. However, throughout history, quartz has been the most popular stone used to carve crystal objects. Perhaps this is because quartz has inherent piezoelectric properties, making it ideal to store and/or transfer energy/information. Quartz is the "vibrating heart" of most telecommunication equipment and computers.

The traditional difference between "real crystal" and "fake crystal" is if a crystal ball is made of ordinary glass or lead crystal, it is considered fake - even though one could legally use the term "crystal" in the same way lead crystal drinking glasses are called "real crystal".

This crystal ball is absolutely gorgeous, and seems to be very high quality. I cannot see any imperfections or scratches, and it is completely clear. The stand is nice quality with a little bit of red velvet where the ball rests to make sure it doesn't get scratched by the stand. The whole thing came in a lovely blue cardboard box with a magnetic clasp. Inside, the crystal and stand fit into hollows in a cloth-covered foam insert. The box probably won't hold up over time, but for a few months of light use, it will provide good protection when I'm not using the crystal.

The 4.2 inches is not an exaggeration... it appeared much larger than I imagined, and is an absolute steal for the price! Amlong Crystal offers hands-down the best value for crystal balls I've found online. Highly recommended.

The stand is really small and of very poor quality. Mine arrived with multiple chips and it almost looks like someone tried to glue some pieces back on to repair it. Really bad looking.

I had read the reviews on this before purchasing, so I went into this hoping for the best (I have purchased A LOT from Amazon and 9 times out of 10, the reviews are not very accurate). The quality of the Quartz crystal ball is absolutely SECOND TO NONE I HAVE EVER SEEN! It is absolutely magnificent. It is, without sounding "pun-ny" "Crystal Clear". I am so very glad I purchased it simply for the ball alone. Now, to the stand and the "gift box". I have posted images of the box and the stand (THANK YOU AMAZON FOR USING LOTS OF THE PACKING "AIR BAGS"!!!!!). First thing I noticed was a rattling coming from the box. I thought the ball was doomed. Upon opening the box, immediately, the entire box separated on one side and part of another. The lining was completely torn away from the interior, and there was NO FOAM IN BETWEEN THE LINER AND THE BOX - it is simply cardboard with some white satin inside. I CAREFULLY lifted the ball out, only to have the stand, while still in the box, fall into two pieces. The screw that was supposed to be holding the stand together is not long enough, nor does it fit the hole in the top half of the stand it connects to. The extremely thin redd-ish velvet lining was pulled away from the top half of the stand and was crinkled up. Figuring that this was the cause of the rattling, after carefully securing the ball, I lifted out the two halves of the stand. It was then that I noticed what was actually making the noise - Four small ball bearings/buck shot!!!!! I have ABSOLUTELY NO CLUE what these were doing in the "gift box", but I am just grateful that they did not scratch or damage the ball in any way!Read more ›

The crystal ball arrived in short order and I was impressed by the speed of delivery. What didn't impress me too much was that the box appeared torn and the stand is badly scratched at the base. The ball itself is in good condition and a nice size. I guess for the price it was an ok deal.

I bought this as a gift to give but the blue box was badly punctured in 3 places on 3 sides. The interior fabric lining was all pulled away and unglued. The ball itself was very dirty and sticky so lighter fluid had to be used all around. Also, the wood stand was badly stained and parts were not evenly covered with stain. The screw was quite loose and had to be tightened. All in all a lot of work had to be done in order to make it gift worthy!
