5.0 out of 5 stars Fettes Brot = the best hip hop worldwide, December 10, 2003
By
Stefan Reich (Santa Cruz, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Amnesie: Best Of (Audio CD)
I hail from Santa Cruz, CA, and don't speak a lick of German. However, despite the language barrier, my love for awesome hip hop caused me to stumble across this group, humorously while frying on acid, and my gosh, was it the greatest sound i had ever heard. You can't contribut this fact to the LSD since when you try and compare this style of hip hop to US versions, it surpasses it in beat matching and lyrical melody by far. Esp. their track "da draussen", even if you can't understand what they are saying, the german becomes it's own instrument or beat... it is just utterly fabulous. If you don't believe me, try downloading a track off of kazaa to sample their style, if you like hip hop you won't be disappointed.

3.0 out of 5 stars COULD ALMOST BE A "BEST OF" ALBUM, June 6, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Amnesie: Best of (Audio CD)
First off, I want to point out that this product is ONLY the audio CD. However, there IS a Fettes Brot: Amnesie DVD out there (more than likely you'd have to go to amazon.de to get it, though).

As the title of my review states, this could easily have been Fettes Brot's "Best of" album, except that it lacks "Nordisch by Nature Part 2", "Emanuela" (which got tons of airtime on MTV in Germany), and "An Tagen wie Diesen".

As it is though, I was happy to revisit some old favorites.

"Nordisch by Nature part 1" is unique in that this song is sung in Platt-Deutsch (a Danish/German dialect). This song may take a while to get used to, but hang in there, it grows on you in a big way! I've listened to it from end to end (the full version, not this abridged version) many many many times and each is as enjoyable as the last. Some days I would almost kill for a language transplant!

"Schwule Maedchen" is another favorite of mine. This one is also unique in that it has a girl singing some parts in Russian. The beat is on point and the lyrics are pretty catchy, too.

Those were the only two I was immediately familiar with, but I also found some other gems:

"Da Draussen" has some catchy lyrics and a party-type sound to it.

"Maenner" is a bit slower and softer which means that it'd be great for kicking back on the couch and relaxing to. It starts out with a refreshing classical sound to it.

"Ruf Mich An", like the latter song, is also slow and soft, but in a pleasant way. These last two songs are pretty good to chill out to.

As for the others, I admittedly didn't listen to them all the way through, but they didn't grab my attention after sampling them at different points.

Overall, a pretty good CD that's just 3 songs shy of a "Best of", and if you find that you like German rap/hip hop, don't stop here, I recommend Die Fantastischen Vier (Fanta Vier), Das Bo's "Tuerlich Tuerlich" and ASD's "Sneak Preview".
