Painful let down., August 28, 2000

I ran out and bought this album the day it came out, listened to it a couple of times (or tried at least), and I totally forget what I did with it. I could care less because the album was a huge let down for me. I have always been fine with the small amount of random noise on other Critters Buggin albums cause they are surrounded by so much awesome stuff and you just cant get music so cool without a little bird walking. It's also kind of amusing in small doses. I usually just chalked it up to the ad-hock nature of the band, which is a big part of their appeal to me. I've seen them live a few times, and I know to expect a little bit of cling with the clang. But this album is like the opposite of all their others, its almost all meaningless sonic ranting and moaning. I'm not into trance or ambient or whatever, so my opinion might be skewed, some people might like this album. It's just that it totally lacks the beat and intensity of their other stuff, which is what I loved so much. The absence of Skerik's sax is also deeply missed. I realize I'm not saying much of substance about what the music is like, but I think its cause I cant! I seriously hope the style of "music" on this album was just a phase. If you are at all interested in checking this band out, and you should if they sound interesting to you, do yourself and the band a favor and get at least one of their other albums.

A Bit Dissapointed - But Still Pretty Good, June 20, 2000
I was a bit let down by this Critters Buggin album. It's good ambient music (background music), but not a great listen. There are very few tracks that stick out. I liked tracks like "Imperial Turkey Blister" and "Emporer Chi Chi", but there isn't much else here. I'm an absolutely HUGE fan of Skerik, but there are next to no sax solos anywhere. I know this may have not much to do with the musicallity of the record, but the first three Critters albums started off with a great song that always had great beats and well-used samples. This one is pretty slow and relaxed through-out. That could be a result of Tuatara's influence on Skerik, and if so the styles of the two bands don't mix well. It's a good album, but I wouldn't recomend it for a first listen of Critters Buggin's music. Go for Host or Guest first, then check this one out. They're a great band.

Cant get to sleep, feel as shady the devil himself? own it., January 25, 2009
This is the soundtrack to misbehavior, perfect for hiding evidence and plotting demise. This actually sounds like the all that captures the "premeditated" aspect of the crime. And the whimpering through the saxophone, so shameful and harrowing. Listen to this at 7 a.m. as everything wears off and you think about what you've just done as you slowly drift into dreamless sleep. There is no other like this. Don't listen often, but make each time count.
