A Powerful Read,
By
This review is from: Amok (Paperback)
I read this story about 30 years ago, when I was a young soldier stationed in Germany. In the late 70's, there were stories in the news about finding Japanese soldiers on islands in the Pacific who did not know the war was over, and were eluding search teams who were sent to try to find them. They eventually brought them in, but it was a tricky proposition, due to the fanaticisim instilled in these soldiers.
The author takes it one step further...a fanatic, psycopathic Japanese leiutenant, sworn to never surrender his sword. The soldier also happens to be nearly eight feet tall. The natives of the island know him as "Amok". He has adapted to his enviornment and will not be taken alive! Read this book...you will not be disappointed!! |
